Bricked DS413J Help needed
February 18, 2023 02:54PM
Hi all,

I don't know if I'm in the good topic.

I have a synology DS413J that bricked maybe from power failure or bad updates.

When I have no disks connected, I have the blinking blue led of death.

I would like to unbrick it and why not install debian on it as there is no more updates of DSM.

Where is the serial port on this model?

Thanks

That's a very good source. Most Synology NAS have the same serial pinout.

Hi

Thanks

I'm confused because it's not the same on mine. Is it the jp1 with 6pin male or jp2
but only 3pin ? Or jp3 6pin without male connectors. I out pictures about it

Thanks for your help

BillyIT,

I have other Synology models, but not this one. However, they all look similar and heve the same pinout.

It should be "the jp1 with 6pin male". Find the marker for pin 1 (it might not be the triangle, but there should be marker).

When i tried the JP1, i don't have anything on putty.

On the picture i put in my first post The mark is on the pin 1
When i put a multimeter on pin2 and a mass point, it beeped
When i put a multimeter on pin 4 and 6, i have 3.xV for the two pins. I read something that there is TX that needs to be about 2.X V and Rx to 0v when not receiving data... Or something like that

Congrats!

Now you can look at the Debian working thread, and post there. I think jhackert completed the Debian boot.

https://forum.doozan.com/read.php?2,132369

Thanks for this too, I forgot to add this box to the kernel support list!

Do I need to continue his thread or another one?

Yes. Read the post to see how jhackert booted Debian rootfs:

https://forum.doozan.com/read.php?2,132369

And post in that thread. I think there is still something need to be done. I will help after you can boot into Debian like he did.
