Seems Linaro has been busy!

They have implemented "GRUB on U-Boot" support:

This could be very handy for embedded devices, and could help to eliminate the work involved in creating fancy boot scripts like Jeff made for Kirkwood and I made for the A10.

Look forward to seeing posts on how well it works. . .
