re-activate dockstar
December 06, 2015 04:23PM
Hi there.
I am trying to re-activate a dockstar
So i followed this instruction:
http://archlinuxarm.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1323

everything seems to work.
But: Now I don't know how to log in over ssh (user? pw?)
the dockstar is reachable over ethernet and ssh is responding

Whats the best way now to proceed?
Is there any other image which i can install over tftp and where i get a better manual?

thanks in advance!
Kind regards

aticio,

You can try loggin in the stock OS throught SSH with user/pass: root/stxadmin.

We don't have instruction for installing newer stock image. If you are interest in running the latest Linux kernel on USB drive and installing new u-boot , then:

Hi there.

I was able to set the root passwd after remounting the rootpart.
Then i tried to install debian with this script: http://projects.doozan.com/debian/dockstar.debian-squeeze.sh

First everything seems ok but then
this ends with th following error message:

# Starting debootstrap installation
E: unrecognized or invalid option --no-check-gpg
debootstrap failed.
See /tmp/debian/debootstrap/debootstrap.log for more information.

Is there something wrong with my bootloader?

The script has problem with debootstrap.

As I recommended above, you can use the prebuilt rootfs from the kernel/rootfs thread. No need to create it. And remember to use use the 3.16 rootfs.

thanks bodhi for your patience and your answers

After a quick preview and as a not-native english speaker i tried the mentioned script first.
So, now i will have to spend much more time (first to understand what to do)
Are there any traps? which i should avoid?

Thanks again!

Since you have run the script until that point, your u-boot has been updated to 2012 version by Jeff/davygravy. However, this is still old, and it does not support booting with FDT kernel.

You can use the Debian 3.16 rootfs from my release thread. My recommendation for a similar situation:

Thank you, but: what do I have to do to get the newest u-boot supported and the latest kernel for my dockstar?
Is there a script or something similar availiable to do that?
Thanks!

As I mentioned above:

http://forum.doozan.com/read.php?3,12381

We don't have a script to automate the whole procedure, but if you can log into the box then you can follow the instruction in the above 2 links to install both rootfs and u-boot.

A new script is always on my TODO list :) but I did not have much time to seriously start working on it! It is not a high priority item for me, since newcomers seem to be able to use the manual procedures in these 2 links without much trouble. If you need help, the best way is to read the instruction and then ask question where you're not sure.

Hi again.

This:
You can use the Debian 3.16 rootfs from my release thread. My recommendation for a similar situation:
http://forum.doozan.com/read.php?4,23425,23427#msg-23427
worked and the dockstar is booting from the stick.
>> SUCCESS, thank you so far.
The new idea for me is to extract the debian directly on the usb stick, this seems easy

The next challenge would be to use the latest kernel and u-boot

Do you have any Idea what this warning mean and is there anthing to fix?
[warn] Not starting NFS kernel daemon: no exports. ... (warning).

thanks

It is OK. NFS is set up in this basic rootfs for user's convenience. But you have not defined any NFS share yet, so that was only a warning, no problem.
