PogoPlug E02 Black
February 23, 2014 02:47AM
hello every one

i have bought my PogoPlug E02 black one one week ago and yesterday i tried to install uboot (/install_uboot_mtd0.sh) and then to install Arch Linux ARM but unfortunallty i go error message (Installation cancelled.) then i forced the installation with (--no-uboot-check ) but again i go this message (uBoot could not be downloaded, or the MD5 does not match.)
the prompet of the switched from bash to pogoplug and i have tried to install again but with no result.

then i found one topic (dont remeber it now ) which contains some steps how to remove some data from flash and the earse !!!! actully i'm not fimilar with these command in unix but i tried it.
now i cant access it via ssh but can access using serial connection , below is the messages i got , it stops at this line

Scheduling watchdog timeout to force reboot...

then start the boot over again

msanad,

Looks like it's booting the stock u-Boot and stock kernel. But I think you've messed up your u-Boot envs so it can't finish starting the kernel.

At the serial console get the listing of u-Boot envs and post here.
CE>> printenv

OK. I don't have the log for original u-Boot envs so can't say why it did not boot. It seems OK. Let's do this:

1. Get the latest rootfs from here and put it on a new USB thumb drive (formatted as Ext3) using another Linux box:
http://forum.doozan.com/read.php?2,12096

2. Plug in this rootfs and power up

3. Interrupt serial console, execute these setenvs (Do not save it with saveenv since you are still testing). Just copy/paste these commands to the console one-by-one

setenv console 'ttyS0,115200'
setenv usb_device '0:1'
setenv mtdparts 'mtdparts=orion_nand:1M(u-boot),4M(uImage),32M(rootfs),-(data)'
setenv usb_set_bootargs 'setenv bootargs console=$console root=/dev/sda1 rootdelay=10 rootfstype=ext3 $mtdparts'
setenv usb_boot 'mw 0x800000 0 1; ext2load usb $usb_device 0x800000 /boot/uImage; if ext2load usb $usb_device 0x1100000 /boot/uInitrd; then bootm 0x800000 0x1100000; else bootm 0x800000; fi'
setenv usb_bootcmd 'run usb_set_bootargs; run usb_boot'
setenv bootcmd 'usb start; run usb_bootcmd; usb stop; reset'

4. If there was no error in step 3, go ahead and boot:
boot

See how it goes. If you got it booted into Debian, then the rest is easy.

You can get Linux Live CD and boot the PC with it.

One more thing, if this causes an error:

setenv usb_boot 'mw 0x800000 0 1; ext2load usb $usb_device 0x800000 /boot/uImage; if ext2load usb $usb_device 0x1100000 /boot/uInitrd; then bootm 0x800000 0x1100000; else bootm 0x800000; fi'
then try this instead
setenv usb_boot 'mw 0x800000 0 1; ext2load usb $usb_device 0x800000 /boot/uImage; ext2load usb $usb_device 0x1100000 /boot/uInitrd; bootm 0x800000 0x1100000'
or
setenv usb_boot 'mw 0x800000 0 1; ext2load usb 0:1 0x800000 /boot/uImage; ext2load usb 0:1 0x1100000 /boot/uInitrd; bootm 0x800000 0x1100000'

I kind of expect it. The stock uBoot is quite old, so it's limited in scripting. Too bad the Pogo E02 does not have UART booting so you can try without flashing new uBoot to NAND. You could flash uBoot directly to NAND using serial console, but I don't know if you want to do that. If booting with stock u-Boot does not work, then you can try that. We'll come to that later if this does not work.

So let's break this usb_boot command in more pieces:

setenv load_uImage 'ext2load usb 0:1 0x800000 /boot/uImage'
setenv load_uInitrd 'ext2load usb 0:1 0x1100000 /boot/uInitrd
setenv boot_debian 'bootm 0x800000 0x1100000'
setenv usb_boot 'mw 0x800000 0 1; run load_uImage; run load_uInitrd; run boot_debian'

Looks like stock u-boot, and a borked initrd
Re: PogoPlug E02 Black

Looks like this stock uboot does not have usb command. And as WarheadsSE said, rootfs in Nand was corrupted.

You have 2 choices, either:
1. Try to restore rootfs with a backup dump, from a good unit.
2. Flash new uboot so you can boot with usb. Setup tftp server on the box that you use to monitor serialconsole. And use tftp command to load new uboot image, and flash it.

As i dont Have alot of experince with Unix , could you help me in either choice , i think the second one i applicable as i already have tftp and work with Pogoplug E02 before and have serial connection with the box.

msanad,

Be careful when you flash u-Boot with Pogo E02 because if something goes wrong during flashing (typos, power outage,…) then the only way to recover is JTAG.

You can download the latest Pogo E02 u-Boot from here:
http://forum.doozan.com/read.php?3,12381

And then follow the instruction here:
http://forum.doozan.com/read.php?3,14916,14917#msg-14917

Note about uboot.kwb image referred to in the instruction thread above: is the uBoot image retrieved by Jeff script (http://projects.doozan.com/uboot/install_uboot_mtd0.sh)
In this case, replace that with the u-Boot image you will download: uboot.2013.10.tld-2.pogo_e02.mtd0.kwb

Update 1: make sure there is no bad block in the first 1M of your NAND. If there is, don't flash U-Boot just yet. You will need plan B.
Update 2: I just looked at your original dmesg. It seems there is no bad block! so you're good to proceed.

Well , I have download the Uboot Image and follow the instruction in the post here : http://forum.doozan.com/read.php?3,14916,14917#msg-14917

after flashing and erasing the NAND then write it again and after make boot commad , the kernal load till this line Scheduling watchdog timeout to force reboot...

but after while (few seconds) it load again but this time stops at

Starting kernel ...

Uncompressing Linux............................................................................................................................ done, booting the kernel.

then i made saveenv because i see this line WARNING: Caches not enabled

but still stops at Starting kernel ...

Uncompressing Linux............................................................................................................................ done, booting the kernel.

The prompt name changed to PogoE02>

i made it restart by pressing the on-board bottom which make it start booting from the begaining.

Congrats! You're running with the latest UBoot.

However, your rootfs in Nand seems to be no good. Use a new USB thumb dive, put the latest Debian rootfs on and boot with it. See link in my signature to download rootfs and instruction.

Did you extract the rootfs archive as root user?

Afraid not! Must be root user on Linux. You can do this using Linux Live Cd if there is no other Linux box available.

and also do you have any suggestion about the Live Linux CD ??
Re: PogoPlug E02 Black
March 05, 2014 04:49PM
I'm following these steps

Download at Dropbox:
Debian-3.13.1-kirkwood-tld-2-rootfs-bodhi.tar.bz2
md5:
7e41aa117a9cea341f007bc6a53ad6a8

Installation:

- format a new ext3 USB drive, and label it rootfs. Note: if your uBoot env for usb_rootfstype is ext2, then use an ext2 USB drive.

- As root user, cd to top level directory and extract it (assuming the USB drive is mounted at /media/sdb1)
cd /media/sdb1
tar -xjf Debian-3.13.1-kirkwood-tld-2-rootfs-bodhi.tar.bz2

but dont understand this point , what do you mean by the following :

- edit /media/sdb1/etc/fstab entry for /dev/root to match the rootfstype of your usb_rootfstype.

sync
- reboot

Congrats! you're all set. Enjoy playing with your Pogo E02… remember to change your root password, and generate new SSH key.

Don't worry about this step, it is just a precaution.
- edit /media/sdb1/etc/fstab entry for /dev/root to match the rootfstype of your usb_rootfstype.
