Hi,

I have dockstar and Goflex home with Bodhi's u-boot. Can I boot openwrt with OS on external usb without writing it on local flash? If yes, how?

OpenWrt on kirkwood devices uses the UBI file system which according to this website can't be used on USB sticks.

On the WD my book live NAS the OpenWrt system is written to an ext4 partition on the hard drive since it doesn't have flash memory. So it is possible to install and run from an ext4 partition but I'm not sure if you can somehow extract the rootfs from a sysupgrade image or if you need to compile your own openwrt.

metric,

What Koen said.

The key point is if you can build OpenWrt rootfs on USB or download it from their site, then you can use my u-boot to boot it.
