goflexhome stop working after archlinux

Guys, need help!!

... a long time ago (about 2 years ago), I was trying to Boost my GoFlexHome (2TB) NAS. Due the problems with dlna, poor network transfers speeds, lack of redundance... . And last.. I was looking for to Rsync solution.

So I followed the tutorial below:

https://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv5/seagate-goflex-home

step by step!!

Everything seems to be ok... until ...reboot. My GoFlex wont came back. The Green light constantly blinks. No IP address from my router. No access from any kind.

So I REALLY need your help!!

I dont even know where to start...

The Green light constantly blinks

It is the tell that even u-boot is not starting.

Unplug power, and plug it in. Start closely observing the LED light behavior, push the power button.

And report here what is the LED behavior. Is it still just blinking green?

I use this JST header, come with 4 wires attached.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Micro-Mini-JST-2-0-PH-4-Pin-Connector-w-Wire-x-10-Sets-/171042546645?

and this serial module converter:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/USB-2-0-to-TTL-UART-6PIN-Module-Serial-Converter-CP2102-STC-PRGMR-Free-cable-/170895253016?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27ca269e18

So the model is CP2102. Search that on Amazon. They should have the module converter with 3 or 4 wires in the package.

You can also search for Prolific brand PL2303.

hi, tks again.

The links from ebay are not working! Product not found. Sounds like countryrestrictions.

I found this cable. (see image attached). Is this the one?

This look OK. Exactly the right chip (but you'll never know for sure until you try it).

Caution: don't connect the Power wire. Only connect TX, GX, and GND.

Cool! so now the problem is your USB rootfs was not formatted correctly.

If you want to continue using Arch Linux ARM then follow the instruction at Arch site, recreate the Arch rootfs and try booting again. Usually, you do need to follow the instruction very closely, don't subtitute any command that you think is equivalent (i.e. if you cannot copy and paste the commands then it will not work).

Hi,

First of all, thanks very much for your help and patience. I´m completelly rusty!! I'm ashamed!

I dont mind to continue with Arch Linux. Is there any better choice?

My problem is: I dont kwow how to move from the point I am. You said, "...follow the instruction at Arch site..". But I dont know what instrutions to follow?

This one? ==> Archlinuxarm

This is the one I followed couple years ago. And if this is the one to follow ... Do I need to walkthrought from the top?

Question:
Assuming I can´t access through Putty because I have no IP address.
Should I Putty through serial and do what?
Or, may be, create an USB bootable?

ps: My device stays "unmounted", without the HD.

That's OK :) take it slow.

I would not say Debian or Arch is the better choice, either distro is fine. Really depending on your personal prefererence. We are supporting Debian in this forum. So I can help you with everything Debian, but not Arch.

Yes. That instruction. If you want to stay with Arch Liux ARM, then post at that forum for help if you cannot boot after installation.

> Question:

Yes, assuming you want to run Debian, create the Debian rootfs using Debian-5.2.9-kirkwood-tld-1-rootfs-bodhi.tar.bz2 from the release thread. You can use serial console for installation. Later after you've got it running, then you will have a normal SSH to connect and upgrade the system.

======

If you connect to this box using another Linux box then try UART booting with kwboot, to see you can. It is a rescue mechanism in case your u-boot is messed up and you cannot boot to u-boot prompt:
