Very nice :)

This is the reason. It was not identified as Pogo V4. The kernel is running it as OpenRD plug. My u-boot build has a wrong machid inside the code, but because setting it explicitly in u-boot env is enough to correct that, I did not bother fixing.

First, make sure your archNumber and machid are correct and in sync. See if you can boot the kernel at all, and what error it would spit out. And we go from there.

Bodhi, I have to clear the machid to get it to boot, I did notice looking at logs the E02 with VAMP has no machid.

If I set any machid regardless of arcNumber it will hang at uncompressing Kernel, I will see if any machid's work, maybe this kernel doesn't support or is not compiled to anything other than OpenRD?

Probably. If you can find the link to the source code to build VAMP, post here and I'll take a look. As right now, it is running fine, so there is no need to be concerned. However, you should check the available memory to see if it is correct, because the OpenRD has 512M RAM.

Also, pls post the dmesg for the Pogo E02 running VAMP. Do you see it was identifed as a reference board, but not as Pogo E02?

According to the above, you are running with 128M RAM, so it does look OK:

KiB Mem: 121756 total, 119448 used, 2308 free, 16208 buffers

Re: U-Boot VAMP 0.6 Pogoplug V4

Hi Bodhi and Dale-

I am trying to get VAMP working on my pogoplug V4.
I started today with a working Debian, which I achieved by following Quis blog.
I then updated U-Boot according to the 2014.07 U-Boot instructions (thanks Bodhi).
I then updated the pre-made environment according section B of that tutorial.
I then tried to cross reference that tutorial with this page to figure out how to get VAMP to work.
I have the VAMP 0.6 image on a USB drive. I made this by using dd on a linux computer.
I also have netconsole enabled.
I am still able to boot into Debian but I am not able to boot into VAMP.
Please note- I followed the netconsole instructions and I am able to "halt" the boot process, but I don't get a command prompt to enter commands at that time.
Nothing is bricked, but I would really like to get VAMP working as I am trying to use Squeezelite and failing epically with Debian.
Thanks and much love,
Peter

should be
usb_load_uimage=ext2load usb $device 0x800000 /uImage
usb_load_uinitrd=ext2load usb $device 0x1100000 /uInitrd

If the above ddid not work, then make sure your rootfs (where /uImage and /uInitrd are) resides on partition 1.

See this post for explanation about booting process:

Thanks Bodhi! This worked immediately!
The new login for VAMP 0.6, by the way, is user:root password:vamp

Do you have any idea how to get wifi working on this? The device is recognized, and here is the output of iwconfig:

[root@localhost ~]# iwconfig
lo no wireless extensions.

eth1 no wireless extensions.

wlan0 IEEE 802.11bgn ESSID:off/any
          Mode:Managed Access Point: Not-Associated Tx-Power=27 dBm
          Retry long limit:7 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
          Encryption key:off
          Power Management:on

eth0 no wireless extensions.

And here is the output of ifconfig:
[root@localhost ~]# ifconfig

monkmandolins,

I don't use VAMP so can't give you specific advice. Perhaps some VAMP-specific forums would have this info.

What is contained in your /etc/network/interfaces file?

Hi
I got wireless working. The VAMP setup ended up being very choppy.

I will stop pestering about this, but I am really just wondering if there is a reliable and problem-free way to get squeezelite working on the Pogoplug.
When it plays (Arch) it works fantastic, but there have been enough issues that it required multiple reboots per day.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Peter

monkmandolins,

You should not have to do more than just making sure your env config on VAMP is:

cat /etc/fw_env.config

# MTD device name	Device offset	Env. size	Flash sector size	Number of sectors
/dev/mtd0 0xc0000 0x20000 0x20000

(This was stated in the new u-boot instruction).
