how to backup/restore your NAND patitions and full device

What is correct format? setenv ipaddr xx.xx.xx.xx or setenv ipaddress xx.xx.xx.xx. For some reason this new mobile has both in it and I did not put it there.

How can you remove items from env? How to defeat DHCP and use fixed IP address?

How to defeat DHCP and use fixed IP address?

ps I think I posted the Magic Number log in wrong place. It is up above. It appears the NAND error caused it to use default env, is that it?

Thank you

Chuck,

Power on without running kwboot. Your mtd0 now has the stock u-boot on it so it should boot that.

Interrupt serial console,
printenv
And post the entire log here (please remember to blank out the cesvcid and MAC address in the log)

I think someone messed with this pogoplug and sold it as new. There is no cesvcid and there is a ipaddress there that I did not put in. anyway I think I should go ahead and put in your uboot etc. or I could leave it alone since it does boot Debian.

Forget about stock OS. Install new u-boot and boot Debian to make your life easier.

I'm confused, I was reading the forums about ipaddr and serverip and don't know what they do for you. I want fixed IP address on all my pogoplugs so I can keep track of them. Is that in one of the config files?

Here is how you set static IP address. (Fixed is a wrong terminology, so I'm guessing you did not have much success Googleing it):

https://wiki.debian.org/NetworkConfiguration

The u-boot env ipaddr tells u-boot what IP address to use for this box during booting. U-boot also has network capability to communicate with a server, so serverip env is needed. These are some possible scenarios (there are more) where u-boot uses ipaddr and serverip:

- netconsole
- tftp
- dhcp

So the idea is: set ipaddr to a static IP and also use it inside Debian rootfs /etc/network/interfaces. So the same IP address will be used during boot loader booting, and also during kernel booting. After the system is running, it is easier to find the box to SSH in, if you already know the IP address.

Also, because my rootfs has avahi-daemon running, you can also SSH in without using ip address:

ssh root@debian.local

Thanks, I will give it a try. Sounds good.

That was great. Question, is it good idea to leave local loop back in config? I now have static addresses on my Debian Pogoplugs.

It does not hurt. And will be useful sometime.

Cool!

I was installing a wireless adapter with these instructions, http://blog.qnology.com/2014/11/debian-on-pogoplug-tutorial-wireless.html,
and actually did get it working somewhat but now Debian goes crazy and starts dumping to the screen on serial interface forever. I think it ran out of ram. Will not stop without pulling the plug to reset. Any advice.d

Reloaded Debian. Re-installed wireless connection. Only problem is if I disconnect the eth0, wired connection, the wireless does not work. Is that because of Multicast?
