Pogoplug Pro OXNAS with entirely corrupt NAND
November 16, 2017 07:06PM
I found a Pogoplug Pro that was destined for the trash bin. NAND appears to be completely fried on the device. I have serial console working on another device, so I'm sure I can get it working here too.

I've seen mention of a workaround when NAND is either dead or has bad blocks to allow booting entirely from SATA, but I can't track down the directions to do so. Any guidance in finding them would be appreciated.

UPDATE: I think I found the link. Time to give this a try

Thank you!

I now have my plug booting Debian directly from SATA and running the Pi-hole ad blocker.

The only annoyance is, I find myself having to interrupt boot via serial console and apply the following changes every time

dt_ide_bootcmd=run ide_set_bootargs; run dt_ide_boot
ide_set_bootargs=setenv bootargs root=/dev/sda1 rootfstype=ext4 console=ttyS0,115200 mem=128M

Since the NAND chip appears to fried, is there some way I can apply these env changes permanently to the image on my SATA drive?

Yes. There is a way to update the envs there. I will take a look to refresh my memory how to.

BTW, when you updated the post, it did not turn up in the browser as something new (red color). So it will stay unanswered until somebody is curious and reread the last post. It is best to make a new post tor followup question.

Any luck tracking down the info on updating envs on the SATA drive? I haven't been able to locate it so far

zhudock,

It seems odd that you need to enter these envs.They should already be in there to boot with SATA.

1. Power up, interrupt serial console and,
printenv

Please post the entire serial console log until this point here.

2. And also, get this info after you have booted into Debian and post here:

cd /boot
ls -l u-boot.env
