wacke,

Unsupported flash type 8 on /dev/mtd1

I think we need to look at your flash type and mtdparts variable. Bootargs need correct mtdparts definition and also the kernel boot log will tell us what type of flash you have.

So power up interrupt serial console,

help
printenv
and boot
boot
And then please post the serial console log here. I think I saw your boot log before, but let's get the most recent one.

Cool! your DSA switch is looking great!

OK now your NAND is also recognized OK

Your bootargs does not have mtdparts, so the kernel is using one from the DTS.

Power up, interrupt serial console and

setenv mtdparts 'mtdparts=pxa3xx_nand-0:4m(uboot),4m(uboot_env),4m(vendor),32m(rescue),8m(kernel),1024m(ubi),-(rootfs_data)'

Your log was cutoff on the right side, so I could not see the whole bootcmd2 env.

We want to add $mtdparts to the bootargs in this bootcmd2. So reset your bootcmd2 with that variable right after earlyprintk=serial

setenv bootcmd2 '.... earlyprintk=serial $mtdparts; .....'

So now it's time to dig in the kernel code to see why it was detecteded correctly (is it what you expected to see ?), but then say
Unsupported flash type 8 on /dev/mtd1

I suspect that it is not a real error, because you can see the new bootcmd2:

bootcmd2=ide reset; ext4load ide 0:1 0x00800000 /boot/uImage; ext4load ide 0:1 0x2100000 /boot/uInitrd; setenv bootargs rootdelay=10 root=/dev/sda1 console=ttyS0,115200 earlyprintk=serial $mtdparts; bootm 0x800000 0x2100000

Also please post the content of

cat /etc/fw_env.config

Hi Bodhi,
No luck.

Re: armada 370 (88f6710) mainline uboot support

It is odd.

Try
# MTD device name Device offset Env. size Flash sector size Number of sectors

/dev/mtd1 0x0000 0x100000 0x100000 4

and

# MTD device name Device offset Env. size Flash sector size Number of sectors

/dev/mtd1 0x0000 0x100000 0x400000 1

Hi bodhi,
Still no luck, maybe the fw_printenv didn't support the mlc nand?

wacke,

Usually if the kernel recognizes the flash type, then mtd_utils and u-boot-tools will handle it correctly. But don't know if u-boot-tools (where fw_printenv is from) has the latest flash supports such as this MLC Micron. u-boot-tools is Debian package, so possibly it could be out-of-sync with kernel 5.10.7.

I think this is the correct one (the kernel reported this flashhas 1MB sector):

Quote

root@debian:~# cat /etc/fw_env.config
# MTD device name Device offset Env. size Flash sector size Number of sectors
/dev/mtd1 0x0000 0x100000 0x100000 4

Have you tried fw_setenv to see if it works? Warning: a litlle risky to do that since there is error with fw_printenv.

wacke,

I've confirmed that fw_printenv does not have support for MLC NAND flash yet.

Then I have to give up for now, and can you build a kernel with hw i/o patch? Also the switch seems did not working properly on the lateset kernel.

wacke,

That dannitool's patch for HW IO coherency did not work. Beside, it is not good for the general MVEBU kernel.

The Armada 370 kernel that I built has special configuration, as I mentioned before. So it cannot be used for your box.

It is best that you use kernel 5.10.7-mvebu-tld-1 and ignore HW IO Coherency for now.

To gain more performance for your Armada 370 box, it needs a different kernel.

Not sure. You need to post the log when it works, and the latest log when it does not work,

Hi, bodhi
Something wrong with my self build uboot, it always crash when transferring large files (scp, samba etc.), but it won't crash when booting with the stock uboot.

Below is the crash log (your latest mvebu kernel 5.11.7):

Hi bodhi,
The attached uboot was from my self built with ext4 support and partation layout change, and have tested with no issues. Other users should flash this uboot to boot debian, or it won't boot.
