I'm sure they are trying to get rid of the Oxnas stuff, since they switched back to Marvell.

It surely seems they did with the Pogoplug Mobile, so it looks like they're having a fire sale right now. The Pogoplug Mobile has a cool form factor, blending in to the home theater setup nicely! but too bad there is no SATA connection hidden like the Pro model (but there are 2 SATA ports that could be modded for someone with soldering skills?).

Looks like Darth Vader's Dockstar.

I'll see what I can do. If it get's around $40.

We will see. Still don't know what uboot it comes with. Basically, no mention of what is in NAND. Might need a variation of Jeff's uboot (at least more of a possibility than with the OXNAS). At least should be easier to get information from Marvell than PLX.

It looks like I don't have to heat up my soldering iron too much. They must have been listening to Bodhi:

They are within $10 of my target price. mmmm.

Fantastic!

At their website it's listed at $99.95+ $9 shipping. Amazon shows $99.99, but they are not shipping yet.

Sorry Bodhi,
I forgot to add. It seems that previous owners of registered pogoplugs. I guess that must be anybody who turned on SSH at their interface should have gotten a 50% or 40% off discount in their email. I got a 50% one but have to pay for shipping. WarheadsSE on pogoplugged.com mentions that he got 40% but with free shipping. Must be randomized. Anyway you got enough pogoplugs that you should get one in the email unless it made it to the spam folder.

Thanks for the info Oddballhero! I've checked my registered email after reading your post, indeed I got the same email for %40 off with free shipping discount. Of which I'm kind of luck out since the only time I had to register a Pogoplug is for the Pro model to get SSH access.

You're kidding! That's like discrimation towards our north of the border brethren. Don't worry dude, I figure that in about 6-8 months, if tradition holds, it'll be on sale somwhere for $39.99 free shipping. By that time we will know if it'll catch fire or not. And should it survive that, there should be a nice uboot that will allow you to make full use of usb3 and sata. Besides the other mobile should be dropping price soon, since by CE timeline it's nearly halfway through it's life cycle..

mobile pogoplug on sale for $49.95 at my local staples this week. (Although I'd rather wait for the Series 4)

Awesome! This worked for me on a Pogoplug V3.

Should "modprobe usbcore" be found and/or some type of USB module like usbhid be listed with lsmod?

Having trouble with a USB printer.
Re: Booting Debian on Pogoplug Pro

^ Good to know that it worked for you! :)

Well, the available drivers are limited, you can try adding few modules from here - http://archlinuxarm.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=1234&sid=20946923b825fbe3e27324c6268c6e34

Else you'll need to compile the modules yourself.
Re: Booting Debian on Pogoplug Pro
December 20, 2011 02:08PM
I tried using these - but they wouldn't load.

gave me some errors about symbols not found.
Re: Booting Debian on Pogoplug Pro
December 20, 2011 02:38PM
Did you all use insmod or modprobe? If you used modprobe, did you do a "depmod -a" before that? Were the modules placed under /lib/modules/2.6.31.6_SMP_820 ? If all this was done, and you are still getting symbols not found, then the modules were not compiled with the same kernel options. You may have to compile your own modules.
Re: Booting Debian on Pogoplug Pro
December 20, 2011 04:00PM
duh - I think what I did was override the existing /lib/modules/2.6.31.6_SMP_820 as opposed to add the files in the tar to it.

seems to work now....

after ADDING these to the directory and depmod -a

iptables now picks up the module....

root@htpogoplug# iptables -L -n
FATAL: Module ip_tables not found.
iptables v1.4.8: can't initialize iptables table `filter': iptables who? (do you need to insmod?)
Perhaps iptables or your kernel needs to be upgraded.
root@htpogoplug# depmod -a
root@htpogoplug# iptables -L -n
Chain INPUT (policy ACCEPT)
target prot opt source destination

Chain FORWARD (policy ACCEPT)
target prot opt source destination

Chain OUTPUT (policy ACCEPT)
target prot opt source destination

oddballhero: How do you do this "2. Just have the kernel on the usb and transfer it to NAND using a few commands"?

Kernel 3.1+ support is on the way soon, and these module issues will be greatly reduced.

Unless you know what you are going.. this is not something to be lightly undertaken. That is why it is all handled by the oxnas-install.sh script. (and all instructions/comments are in there)
Re: Booting Debian on Pogoplug Pro

Sure - it's cool to run self-contained. But for all the convenience that loading in NAND would bring; I'd rather burn through a $5 replaceable USB stick than my NAND.

Re: Booting Debian on Pogoplug Pro

Thanks a lot to Varkey and everyone else who has done a lot of work on this. I am something of a newbie to the Pogoplug universe. I have got ALARM installed and running; but Debian would be preferable as I'm a little wary of rolling releases: 1) this is a sort of production system, and 2) I plan to make it as replicable as possible (we may be running six or seven eventually), and 3) I'm the only administrator. So these are a few questions that may be very basic:

1. Would you all recommend running Varkey's Debian rootfs with the ALARM kernel as a stable solution?
2. Would Debian package-related and sysadmin operations run normally, or would there be an effect from running the ALARM kernel?
3. Would you recommend waiting for WarheadSE's updated 3.1 kernel? I don't plan to use anything except the standard wired port and the USB ports (eSATA only if one gets adventurous).

Basically all this springs from ignorance of the exact relationship between kernel and rootfs...

I'd say the rolling release isn't a big deal in your case. Get everything you need, then clone for more devices, with appropriate updates to /usr/local/mac_addr & hostname/ip.
