May 20, 2019 07:47AM
I want to update the U-Boot. How to do it correctly for my model?
Need uboot.2017.07-tld-2.sheevaplug.bodhi.tar ?
Thanks.

celove2,

So you have installed the Dockstar u-boot circa 2011.12.

> U-Boot 2011.12 (Feb 12 2012 - 21:33:07)
> Seagate FreeAgent DockStar

This should allow booting with Debian-4.12.1-kirkwood-tld-1-rootfs-bodhi.tar.bz2. So create the rootfs on USB using that tarball.

You need to do Step 4b so that it will boot with U-Boot 2011.12.

Quote

4b. Boot with DTB file embedded in the kernel image (no U-Boot envs changes are needed if your system already booting on USB or HDD). Again, this step 4b is for stock U-Boot only.

After you created the USB rootfs, attach to the box, power up, and interrupt serial console, and

printenv
That will tell me how to get you to boot into the USB rootfs.

Please post here the entire serial console log from power up.

OK so it looks like Jeff's u-boot.

With the new USB rootfs attached. Power up, interrupt serial console, and

setenv usb_set_bootargs 'setenv bootargs console=$console root=LABEL=rootfs rootdelay=$usb_rootdelay rootfstype=$usb_rootfstype $mtdparts $usb_custom_params'
boot

Again, please post the entire serial console here, if it does not boot all the way into Debian login prompt.

Re: U-Boot for Pogoplug Pogo E01 (003-SP1001)
May 21, 2019 09:27PM
celove2,

With the new USB rootfs attached. Power up, interrupt serial console, and

setenv usb_set_bootargs 'setenv bootargs console=$console root=LABEL=rootfs rootdelay=$usb_rootdelay rootfstype=$usb_rootfstype $mtdparts earlyprintk=serial'
boot

Again, please post the entire serial console here. I don't expect it to boot all the way into Debian login prompt. But we need more information that will be in the log.

celove2,

Try
setenv usb_boot 'mw 0x800000 0 1; ext2load usb $usb_device 0x800000 /boot/uImage; if ext2load usb $usb_device 0x2100000 /boot/uInitrd; then bootm 0x800000 0x2100000; else bootm 0x800000; fi'
setenv usb_set_bootargs 'setenv bootargs console=$console root=LABEL=rootfs rootdelay=$usb_rootdelay rootfstype=$usb_rootfstype $mtdparts earlyprintk=serial'

celove2,

That has booted very far! you are almost there.

But your rootfs has a problem

[ 20.097764] EXT2-fs (sda1): error: couldn't mount because of unsupported optional features (4)

What you should do is to recreate the Debian rootfs on USB using Debian-4.12.1-kirkwood-tld-1-rootfs-bodhi.tar.bz2, following the instruction very closely.

https://forum.doozan.com/read.php?2,12096

Basically, use Ext3 rootfs, single partition, label the parition as rootfs, creating it while being root user (sudo is not enough, you need to be root).

I did everything with root:
sudo su
****
See the screenshot. I have Ext3

celove2,

Just wipe out the disk and redo it.

If you still have same problem, then post the log of how you create the rootfs (don't post screenshot).

Yes, you were right. I used to do something wrong. Now I see other errors.

You are booting with
U-Boot 2011.12 (Feb 12 2012 - 21:33:07)
Seagate FreeAgent DockStar

This 2011.12 u-boot is not FDT enabled (unlike the latest version 2017.07-tld-1).

So the uImage in your newly created rootfs must have the DTB appended. As stated in the rootfs instruction

Quote
https://forum.doozan.com/read.php?2,12096

4. Create uImage with embedded DTB for booting with older u-boots (2012 or earlier). Skip this step if you have installed the latest U-Boot for Kirkwood (or are installing this u-boot at the same time).

Please replace kirkwood-goflexnet.dtb below with the correct DTB name for your box (see the folder /media/sdb1/boot/dts for the exact spelling of your Kirkwood box name).

Generate the uImage with DTB embedded inside:
cd /media/sdb1/boot
cp -a zImage-4.12.1-kirkwood-tld-1 zImage.fdt
cat dts/kirkwood-goflexnet.dtb >> zImage.fdt
mv uImage uImage.orig
mkimage -A arm -O linux -T kernel -C none -a 0x00008000 -e 0x00008000 -n Linux-4.12.1-kirkwood-tld-1 -d zImage.fdt uImage
sync

If your Linux box does not have mkimage, then install it

apt-get install u-boot-tools

The DTB you need to use to append is:

/boot/dts/kirkwood-dockstar.dtb

setenv usb_boot 'mw 0x800000 0 1; ext2load usb $usb_device 0x800000 /boot/uImage; if ext2load usb $usb_device 0x2100000 /boot/uInitrd; then bootm 0x800000 0x2100000; else bootm 0x800000; fi'
setenv usb_set_bootargs 'setenv bootargs console=$console root=LABEL=rootfs rootdelay=$usb_rootdelay rootfstype=$usb_rootfstype $mtdparts earlyprintk=serial'
saveenv
boot

Work for me!
