Install debian from resuce v2: perl conflict

Hi,

I had a usb-stick going bad and now have to reinstall debian on my pogoplug v2. I have the rescue system v2 installed, but following the instructions from here http://projects.doozan.com/debian/ I get this error:
rescue:/tmp# ./kirkwood.debian-wheezy.sh

Your perl subsystem does not have support for $ENV{}
and must be disabled for debootstrap to work
Please disable perl by running the following command

chmod -x /usr/bin/perl

After perl is disabled, you can re-run this script.
To re-enable perl after installation, run:

chmod +x /usr/bin/perl

Installation aborted.

Mounting the resuce system as writable and executing the suggested solution doesn't solve the problem.

Any ideas how to get the installer to work on the rescue system? Should I update my rescue system first?

Hi, I got the same error as you (I have a dockstar but I think this doesn't matter here).
What I did was the following:

#Manually remount / writable
mount -o remount -w /
#then rename perl so it cannot be found by installation script
mv /usr/bin/perl /usr/bin/perl.OLD

it seems that the install script itself failed to handle this.

Now, in my case I wanted to install debian wheezy. debootstrap is already in NAND, so the script doesn't even try to install it, but the debootstrap version in NAND was too old, giving an error when trying to install wheezy, so I did also the following: Rename debootstrap and related files

mv /usr/sbin/debootstrap /usr/sbin/debootstrap.OLD
mv /usr/share/debootstrap /usr/share/debootstrap.OLD

And then the install script should run fine.

If everything went ok, (you can then optionally delete the old debootstrap version and then) you can remount NAND read-only:
mount -o remount -r /

Hope this still helps now, as your post is already a few weeks old.

Regards,
Josef

Hi, thanks for your reply. I acutally worked my way around this problem, as described here: http://forum.doozan.com/read.php?2,12854,12866#msg-12866

As I felt bad cross-posting, I didn't post it in this thread as well.

I recently purachsed a NSA320 and would like to try out your Resuce System. I am interested in having control of the Hard Drives in the system, specifically disabling the drive "head parking" feature on Western Digital and Seagate drives
