nsa325 v1 is bricked or dead. Serial and kwboot didn't work

Hi.

I've got NSA235 v1 NAS from my friend. He didn't remember is it worked at all.

When I plug a power cord the NAS turns on HDD2 and power LEDs and starts spinning the cooler. But in 20-30 seconds power LED blinks and cooler stops spinning and then starts again.

I did my homework and read various topics regarding NSA325 unbricking. I tried to connect via serial console (I have prolific PL2303 USB adapter and the FTDI FT232RL one).

I downloaded uboot image and tried to load it.
kwboot -t -B 115200 /dev/ttyUSB0 -b uboot.2017.07-tld-1.nsa325.mtd0.kwb -p

But no success - it shows only that:

Sending boot message. Please reboot the target.../

And never stops spinning.

Is anything can be done or NAS is completely dead?

phane,

See this thread:

You should try what I suggested to kofec, see if you will get different result. I think his box has faulty RAM.

I did read this thread but my situation is slightly different.
kofec's NAS boots but the process is terminated. My shows nothing at all.

Regarding JTAG. I extracted the mainboard from my NAS and can give it to my friend to solder JTAG into it.
Did I understand right, I still can my serial USB adapter or need to buy something else?

btw, if it's faulty RAM module, can it be re-soldered?

Buy a rasPi board (model A or B) so that you can use the pins already populated. Or buy BusPirate so it can be used with any box that has OpenOCD binary.

Nobody has tried this on the NSA325, so I'm not sure.

I found at the Aliexpress the same Nanya memory modules my NSA325 has and it but still not sure too.

When I'll found from whom to borrow Raspberry (or to buy), can I just diagnose problems with OpenOCD or do something with a boot loop?
Is trouble worth it?

May be, may be not. There is no way to know what is wrong with the box hardware wise. JTAG is the last resort to see if your serial port is dead (good situation). If it is RAM problem, then you might get the same silence from JTAG.
