MK802 - Cannot boot anything but Android
October 01, 2012 07:57AM
Hi,

Since getting my MK802 I have tried a couple of times to boot various distros (Including the Rescue image v1.3) and each results in the exact same issue - A blank screen featuring "no signal".

Below is a copy of the fex from the android nanda partition :
http://pastebin.com/9tteVDrG

I cannot see any reason why it won't boot...
On the chance the MK802 is pi-esque I've also tried 3 different cards (2x Samsung and 1x Unbranded) with no luck.

Any pointers would be much appreciated !

Cheers,

I suggest that you attach a serial console and check if your issue is the same as mine:

I am facing similar issues with a new Mele 2000 (v1.7 ?). Booting from SD card results in a hang condition. The serial console didnt show anything useful..

U-Boot SPL 2011.09 (Aug 21 2012 - 14:44:02)

MMC: SUNXI SD/MMC

(It appears stuck after this..)

Tried with 2 different micro SD cards (Transcend/Sandisk make, Class 4) with no success.

hno says it's ~patched~
https://github.com/hno/uboot-allwinner/issues/17

I don't know. I didn't try and i'm a bit tired to ask.

They are sleeping on their github like with the sata issue.

At least, you can try one from the test package in page two here:

This uboot is working.

Thanks for the replies.

Unfortunately I haven't got a usb>ttl or rs2332>ttl cable so it will be a while before I can get console access..

guillaume:
Thanks for the links, I tried the patched uboot (and multi uboot), patched spl (in just about every combination with uboot) and out of desperation tried the nightly builds from http://dl.linux-sunxi.org/nightly/latest/
None of which produced anything different to what I had seen previously.

The problem does sound identical to rm's (from what I have read in mailing list archives) but I am unable to confirm without console. This is the "AK802" with 1GB (Confirmed) and I am running a restore image for the MK802 so I imagine my original bin/fex are now gone.

Does u-boot initialise the base hardware from info in the bin/fex or is that the kernels job? As I wonder if there are some subtle hardware differences relating to the sd controller.

EDIT:
I can confirm that the sdcard is seen and working under android...the mystery continues

I'm running into the same problem, using Mk802 1GB as well. I'm quite determined so if no solution is found, I'll probably try debug it with serial console. It is quite a big effort for me though, as I am a software specialist, but hardware noobie. Has you managed to solve / work around the issue by any chance?

Thanks,

Michael
