Hard disk Sentinel

I was searching Kali Linux for a Seagate Dockstar through google and stumbled upon this hard disk sentinel for Linux. It looks like a commercial package. However, it has a free version for an ARMv5 platform. I wonder if anyone here has tried this hard disk sentinel and can chime in before I will give it a try.

Are you not using Debian smartmontools?

Bodhi,

No. But, since you mentioned it, I just installed smartmontools. Now, what should I do to take the advantages of what smartmontools can give.

Looks like all I need is to taylor the /etc/default/smartmontools (/dev/sda is my SATA HDD). Then, run /etc/init.d/smartmontools restart to enable smartmontools.

[root@debian:/root 1%] # cat /etc/default/smartmontools
# Defaults for smartmontools initscript (/etc/init.d/smartmontools)
# This is a POSIX shell fragment

# List of devices you want to explicitly enable S.M.A.R.T. for
# Not needed (and not recommended) if the device is monitored by smartd
enable_smart="/dev/sda"

# uncomment to start smartd on system startup
start_smartd=yes

# uncomment to pass additional options to smartd on startup
smartd_opts="--interval=1800"
[root@debian:/root 2%] #
