Default Debian Packages - Post Yours
May 24, 2015 07:59PM
Over the course of the last few months of being a member of this site, I have created and re-loaded several versions of bodhi's rootfs' so each time I have to reload the same default (at least to me) packages. These set of default packages cover just about every basic use of Pogoplug or similar device. I have posted my list below and hope others find it of use. Note some packages may be included in bodhi's rootfs' already but I use this list for Debian loads on other devices so there is some duplication.

Please feel free to post your default list so others can use it as a reference or as a "noobs" starting guide:

apt-get update && apt-get upgrade -y

apt-get install aptitude htop hdparm git samba cups bluetooth bluez bluez-tools libbluetooth-dev wpasupplicant wireless-tools iw lame flac mpg123 pulseaudio alsa-base alsa-utils fuse ntfs-3g dosfstools elinks gcc make build-essential sudo unzip pciutils usbutils smbclient cifs-utils exfat-fuse exfat-utils sysbench zip –y

Leggo,

That's sure is a good and comprehensive list!

But why did you not just clone your existing rootfs and install new kernel when it's release? assuming you did this for a new plug. For the current plug, install new kernel is all you need, too.

Or because your existing rootfs is all messed up, you don't want to bother cleaning it?

That's why. Up until recently, I didn't necessarily have a grasp on Debian as I do now and sometimes I would try something that was not easily recovered. Starting fresh with a new rootfs was a more expedient option in that situation.

It's true :) I did this in the beginning for a few times, too. I said to myself, wtf just scrap it :))

Should add nfs-common and nfs-kernel-server, too.
