Okay, attached is the result from
AV Linux running live off USB stick. I'm really amazed by this - not even in failsafe mode the Live booted up as fast as my desktop quadcore, on a tiny 10ZiG. When it comes to Linux with a GUI, if only I steal my favorite screensavers from Mint XFCE, I'd ditch mint and spend my days on Debian and AV (both are Debian if it came down to it). A V Linux has an HP Device Manager built-in even.
-update- Saving screensaver configuration is way easier than I'd realized. It's plain as day in the Home directory and called
.xscreensaver.
