USB DVB-T RTL-SDR Tuner

Has anyone here ever used any USB DVB-T RTL-SDR Tuner? I did some searches through AliExpress and came up with at two as shown below. Ordinarily, I was just looking for a USB FM Radio tuner and wanted to listen to some local FM radio stations while on my computer. This USB DVB-T RTL-SDR Tuner makes it possible to not only allows listening to any local FM radio stations, but also allows watching local digital TV channels on a computer? I wonder if it will work with kodi, too.
  1. USB DVB-T RTL-SDR Tuner Receiver Stick with R820T RTL2832U MCX Interface FM/DAB/Video TV Stick for Android PC Computer US $7.49 + Free S/H
  2. ROHS Mini Digital USB 2.0 TV Stick FM+DAB DVB-T RTL2832U + R820T Support SDR Tuner Receiver for Computer PC + Remote Control US $9.23 + US $0.63 = US $9.86

One clue is the mention of RTL2832U, which is a Realtek product.

What I wonder, is if the remote control gets lost if you can tune it from the computer side of the connection? Because if it sticks on Dr Phil everyday that's darn near close to crossing the line.

Without looking at the system, my general answer is yes. Any IR, RF, or Bluetooth receiver has a daemon running that interprets the signals. So generally, you can control such systems with wifi. Lots of media centers have IOS or Droid apps for that purpose.

In the trash can it goes then :)

Yeah that Dr Phil is said to be a kitten rustler, unable to contemplate Linux's nice settings. LOL

Ouch I got my unit in and it turns out, the United States does not support DVB-T, but rather ATSC.
So this is supposedly fine for FM radio, but even then it gets a little too warm for my comfort.
I guess it will do other tricks like track airplanes passing over, but that's no comfort.

In some cases I'd let that slide, but the seller had no indication it didn't work in the US, so I'm toying with the idea of being petty.
I know in any country I'm buying cheap parts out of, money is worth a lot more and I don't want to shaft the seller either, so I hope to come up with a win-win.

Hello Joey,

Sorry to hear about that. I hope you will find ways to use the DVB-T module here in the US.

That's scary stuff! Yeah I just wanted local TV channels to save $6 a month, not so much participate in the apocalypse ;-)

I stand corrected what it's called. Also, since I didn't know the US uses ATSC standard, I may as well give the seller a good rating and not cause any financial discomfort. You live you learn.
