I have another question: Suppose I'm booting from USB disk which only has rootfs. I have a swap in hdd and another partition in the same hdd for storage. How can I force Debian to use the SWAP in the HDD? Is it true that if there is no SWAP partition in the USB disk and there is a SWAP in the HDD the OS will use that SWAP by partition?by archat68 - Debian

I made a ext3 partition in the HDD (dev/sda3) and installed the rootfs into it and labelled it "rootfs". sda1 is the storage partition and sda2 is the swap I trieby archat68 - Debian
Thanks!! I booted through the USB stick with 3.16 rootfs. I have provided a SWAP in USB stick (400MB) with unallocated space of 400MB . I shall do a apt-get update followed by upgrade. i) Next to upgrade to latest kernel what shall I do? ii) What I want to do is to boot through the USB stick with the HDD attached to the dockstar. I have Jeff's old 2.16 kernel running on my Dockstar. Can I directly install the 4.2 kernel directly? My system is booting from a USB HDD. I installed the system 4 yrs back and then did not create separate partitionb for root and data download :(. Shall I make a separate parttition before I proceed (will there be any data loss?) Sorry for noob quesions.by archat68 - Debian
bodhi Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > It should be doable. I need something newbieproof ik ethe Jeff's script :). Another question is how is the Android based TV sticks compared to RPi? The usage will be 24X7 downloading (maybe) with some browsing on TV. I was reading that Ubuntu can be installed in the TV sticks.by archat68 - Debian
What are VFM alternative to a Seagate dockstar these days? The device needs to run debian (or similar) and will be used as 24X7 downloader only.by archat68 - Debian
O.K thanks - my knowledge with Linux is so poor! It was not possible to to do all these without your active help.by archat68 - Debian
Yes that worked. BTW what is the following errors that I'm seeing through the serial output: QuoteUBIFS error (pid 0): ubifs_get_sb: cannot open "ubi:rootfs", error -19 Error reading superblock on volume 'ubi:rootfs'! I'm getting this error even in case of successful boot. Also the uboot is flagged dirty.by archat68 - Debian
And here is the log when I'm able to boot to Debian sometime with Pen Drive.by archat68 - Debian
Here is a fresh log with USB HDD attached and freshly installed Debian as you requested.by archat68 - Debian
Quote UBIFS error (pid 0): ubifs_get_sb: cannot open "ubi:rootfs", error -19 Error reading superblock on volume 'ubi:rootfs'! What does this error means?by archat68 - Debian
Well I tried that command followed by restart of the Dockstar. It still boots into rescue mode. I've attached the serial output and printenv for your reference.by archat68 - Debian
I re-installed debian into a re-formatted HDD. I still can not boot into Debian - it boots into the rescue mode. The serial cable output is attached for reference.by archat68 - Debian
I'm facing problem with the booting into Debian. With Flash drive - it boots sometimes - not always - when it fails to boot into debian it boots into rescue mode. I restored the same backup to USB HDD that I was earlier using. I'm not at all able to boot into Debian with the HDD. It always boots into rescue mode. I'm attaching the serial port output here in a .txt file. Boby archat68 - Debian
Yesss! I can boot up from a restored backup. BTW I'd used Acronis True Image to take the backup and using it to restore the partition. Is there any better way to take a backup?by archat68 - Debian
WOW!! This is what called support! Hats off to you - Jeff! It worked and I can now boot into rescue. BTW shall I try to boot from backup from my earlier installation?by archat68 - Debian
Thanks once again Jeff. After I issue the "go 0x800200" command I see QuoteMarvell>> go 0x800200 ## Starting application at 0x00800200 ... My config is as follow ipaddr=192.168.2.6 (my gateway is 192.168.2.1 - so it can be any unused IP in this range - am I correct?) serverip=192.168.2.4 (this is ip of my laptop running TFTP server in ubuntu) When I restart my Dockstar to start TFTP - I get the following output: QuoteSoC: Kirkwood 88F6281_A0 DRAM: 128 MiB NAND: 256 MiB In: serial Out: serial Err: serial Net:by archat68 - Debian
Thanks Jeff for your reply I did not proceed when I was unable to run "resetenv" and I did not run any flash erase command. I've only issued "setenv" commands followed by "saveenv" command. I tried the commands as mentioned above by you. I'm getting the following output: Quote### JFFS2 loading 'uboot-original-mtd0.kwb' to 0x800000 Scanningby archat68 - Debian
i tried "run bootcmd_usb" but is always getting the following error: Wrong Image Format for bootm command ERROR: can't get kernel image! I also tried "run bootcmd_original" and "run bootcmd_pogo" - everytime I get the same error.by archat68 - Debian
