FYI - The PN of the 'Canadian' DockStar I recently got (eBay/BeachAudio) is 100576826B. I have NOT checked the NAND size yet...in fact, I haven't even opened it yet :)by sandbasser - Debian
+1 on d1dd1's webmin recommendation... it's a very handy tool!!!by sandbasser - Debian
Something odd going on with my dockstar after installing MPD... The install seemed ok - but I got this message at the very end of the install of MPD... ... Starting Music Player Daemon: mpdcreating /var/lib/mpd/tag_cache... (warning). ... The later today i noticed the following when I did an 'lsusb' command... root@debian:~# lsusb lsusb: cannot open "/var/lib/usby sandbasser - Debian
Heinz - I tried the 'update-rc.d webmin defaults' command that you recommended... I did get some warning messages; but it resolved the problem with webmin not starting after reboot. Many thanks!!!by sandbasser - Debian
Heinz - A question for you...does your webmin start automatically after reboot or do you have to manually start it??? Mine (obviously, on a separate stick) doesn't start after reboot - I have to manually start it. It's pretty annoying. Thanks,by sandbasser - Debian
sbp - Unless I'm misunderstanding your question, I believe you would just edit the 'install_uboot_mtd0.sh' script before you execute it. You could use vi or nano or whatever editor you like.by sandbasser - uBoot
Hi - Last night I tried to upgrade webmin on my debian/dockstar via a link on the web interface... it rendered my usb-stick unbootable... I checked both the debian forum and webmin forums and couldn't find any other folks reporting problems. I suspect it's somehow due to my flawed installation of webmin - it never 'automatically' started after aboot although it looby sandbasser - Debian
petergunn - your suggestion a few posts back to my problem with "mplayer after reboot" worked PERFECTLY!!! many thanks,by sandbasser - Debian
Kingston DataTraveler 4GB works fine... although it seems a little slower. Nothing 'scientific' just an observation without any metrics.by sandbasser - Debian
I just did a fresh install on a Kingston DataTraveler 4GB. Which, by the way worked fine, but it seems slower than my San Disk Cruzer 2GB... nevermind :) My question pertains to the /etc/apt/sources.list. When I looked at it at the last step (after changing the root pw) i noticed that it contains: deb http://cdn.debian.net/debian squeeze main The first time I did an install; the sourby sandbasser - Debian
Well - it's me again (the thick-headed noobie)... Last night I had mplayer working on my dockstar hearing sound just fine... followed steps as suggested by 'petergunn' at the top of this thread. after some help from pg in getting mplayer etc installed, i was successful in hearing sound. But, today after restarting the dockstar it doesn't work... get's lots of errors.by sandbasser - Debian
pg - thanks for the quick response.by sandbasser - Debian
Hi petergunn - I'm quite interested in this subject; but, I'm pretty much a totaly noobie (although I've learned a lot in the last week or so). I tried to follow the step that you documented and got stumped with the very first step :( I issued 'lsusb' (at # prompt from root) and got "command not found". (it happens with OR without the el-cheapo usb aby sandbasser - Debian
restamp - Thanks for the 'proper' answer to hyena's query. And, thanks for the advice on making a new stick. Haven't decided what to do yet. Looking into 'clonezilla' or similar tools. By the way, I figured out why I thought there were 'separate' scripts for uboot and debian...I clicked on the 'bootloader' linky in the first sentence ofby sandbasser - uBoot
Ian - I'm really a noobie; but I think there are separate sh scripts for uboot and debian. I'm just guessing but I think you should just be able to run the debian install script. I'll await a definitive answer from Jeff or one of the 'pros'... 'cuz I want to install debian on a separate usb stick (in case my flash drive dies too).by sandbasser - uBoot
Hi - I'm a genuine total noobie - new to debian, new to linux (and new to dockstart)... I've learned a lot in the past few days... but, i'm still quite ignorant... I installed webmin and it works fine - it's quite an interesting tool; but every time I reboot debian/dockstar i have to start it manually (issue '/etc/webmin/start' from root). this is somewhat of a pby sandbasser - Debian
The adventure begins... Installed Jeff's debian for my Dockstar on a: SanDisk cruzer (2GB) everything worked perfectly... NOTE: My first post - and I'm an absolute noobieby sandbasser - Debian
