Here is what worked for me, best as I remember: Quoteapt-get install lighttpd -- changed www root to something on attached hard disk drive lighttpd-enable-mod fastcgi apt-get install mysql-server mysql-client apt-get install php5-cgi php5-mysql php5-cli php5-curl php5-gd php5-mcryp nano (already installed) /etc/php5/cgi/php.ini add the line cgi.fix_pathinfo = 1 right at the end of the fileby geodog - Debian
Daze, My two NSLUs are also now in hibernation, replaced by dockstars. It is nice to have the speed and RAM of the dockstar, and to be able to use a stock debian install. Thank you Jeff, the debian maintainers, and all the helpful people on this forum.by geodog - Debian
Depends on your client. I currently have Firefly Media server http://www.fireflymediaserver.org/ aka mt-daapd running for iTunes client, and mediatomb http://mediatomb.cc/ running for UPnP client. Mediatomb is little more resource intensive, but both can be installed via apt-get and both work well (for music, haven't tried movies or photos). Indexing can take a while, depending on the sizby geodog - Debian
See if your flash drive is on list of those that have worked or not worked. http://forum.doozan.com/read.php?2,1915 Try typing reboot at the pogoplug prompt. If that doesn't work, type fw_printenv and post the output, and hopefully some wiser soul can help you out. See this thread http://forum.doozan.com/read.php?2,3568 for my recent experience. Good luck.by geodog - Debian
Started from scratch with my hard disk, repartitioned sda1 as ext2, sda2 as swap, sda3 as ext3, and sda4 as ntsfs, and recopied from my flash drive using dd. Takes longer than the flashdrive to boot up, and need to make sure no other disks connected, but otherwise works like a charm. Thank you so much for your patient assistance.by geodog - Debian
My apologies. The lack of information comes from my ignorance. Most of what I have learned comes through these forums, but it is kind of hit or miss, since there isn't a lot of other documentation. I wasn't even aware that there was a reboot command. I attached my new hard drive (with the partitions copied over from my working flash drive). I power up my Dockstar. The "Debian&by geodog - Debian
Thanks, I was successful in getting the more full featured LED entries after I did fw_setenv arcNumber 2998 as you suggested. However, I am not not able to boot from my new FreeAgentGO drive http://forum.doozan.com/read.php?2,3568 Could it be related? Suggestions?by geodog - Debian
As suggested elsewhere, I purchased a FreeAgentGO hard drive. I partitioned it, then copied my working debian install from my flash drive to the hard drive. However, when I try to boot from the hard drive, I can only boot up in pogoplug, i.e. root@Pogoplug: 1) Does anyone have any guesses on why I am not about to boot into Debian, and what I can do about it? I recently changed my arcNumber (fwby geodog - Debian
Wow! I think I am getting way out of my depth here, and a little far afield of best way to shutdown, but it is fun. Thanks for teaching. So, I have Quoteroot@debian:/sys/class/leds# ls plug:green:health no dockstar, no orange. Wonder what that means? Do the scripts above only apply if you have a special kernel, (I've seen some mention of special LED enabled kernel), or will they work for the the standard Jeff script install? Thanks for all the helpful information.by geodog - Debian
Given my problems with file corruption documented elsewhere, I'd be grateful for recommendations for best (safest) way to shut down dockstar. With no LED action, and using recommended ADATA flash drive with no read/write light, I'm never sure I am doing it correctly, and experience suggests I may not be. Currently I have boot flash and storage hard drive attached. I umount /dev/sdb1by geodog - Debian
Interestingly, although painfully enough, something seems wrong with my filesystem at the end of this. du shows only 600 MB used out of a 3.5GB partition, but df shows the partitition as full. Something is wrong, but I don't have a clue what. Doing an FSCK on the flash drive, and thinking that maybe this whole thing was a bad idea.by geodog - Debian
Thanks for taking the time to reply. I'll probably leave it as it is for now. I took someone's advice on this board, and bought a Seagate GO drive, which I will try and install as the boot drive once it arrives.by geodog - Debian
Restamp, thanks for the research. In my case, I have what it defaults to from initial install: Quote# <file system> <mount point> <type> <options> <dump> <pass> /dev/root / ext2 noatime,errors=remount-ro 0 1 /dev/sda2 none swap sw 0 0 tmpfs /tmp tmpfs defaultsby geodog - Debian
If you ever get Calibre working as a server on the Dockstar, I would be interested in following in your footsteps.by geodog - Debian
It was an ext3 filesystem on a 4GB flash drive, and it was very badly corrupted, so badly I am having to start over from scratch. Some of my apps wouldn't work again, and I got to a state where I couldn't un-install or install new versions, and my lost+found was filled with files. Maybe someone with more Linux skills could have recovered, but I decided to start with a new flash drive, aby geodog - Debian
Good news / bad news. After doing an fsck on my flash drive, successfully booted into debian. Unfortunately, filesystem was pretty hosed, but that had nothing to do with Jeff's or Debian software. Thanksby geodog - Debian
I have had a Dockstar running Jeff's debian from a flashdrive for several months. Went away and had a power failure while I was gone. Restarted Dockstar, and got a blinking yellow light and no boot into debian -- instead still seems to be Pogo. fw_printenv gives: Quote root@Pogoplug:~ $fw_printenv ethact=egiga0 bootdelay=3 baudrate=115200 mainlineLinux=yes console=ttyS0,115200 leby geodog - Debian
You could try running a more lightweight webserver like lighttpd, and installing a php accelerator like APC. I haven't done it for the dockstar myself, but did it for the NSLU Slug a long time ago.by geodog - Debian
I've installed Jeff's script on my Dockstar, and setup a music server with samba, Mediatomb, Firefly/mt-daapd and squeezebox, and it is working beautifully. Thank you Jeff and other contributors. I'm thinking of converting my Pogoplug to a webserver for php apps. Does Jeff's script work equally well for Pogoplug as it does for the Dockstar? Thanks, Timby geodog - Debian
