My take on how to access the serial port header with a generic (your wire colors may be different!) CA-42 cable. It allows you to see the boot process beyond "Starting kernel ...", where nc stops. A great aid in troubleshooting boot issues! 1) Bend the pins and drill appropriate holes 2) Check alignment 3) Insert CA-42 cable with female D-SUB connectors attached 4) Done. You're going to want to partition the drive again. /dev/sda1 larger /dev/sda2 smaller Did you really type OK in capitals? if so then exiting would be expected. HTH, Jimby j10152 - Debian

I question the arcNumber=2097 listed by printenv. It's for booting the rescue system, which you have not installed yet. You might try setting it back to 2998 Marvell>> setenv arcNumber 2998 Marvell>> saveenv Marvell>> reset And then reboot the thing. You've saved yourself a lot of grief by installing netconsole! While I also use and endorse webmin's capabilities, another option is readily available to execute commands on a remote host. ssh user@hostname command Set up ssh keys so there is no interactive authentication required, alias your command to something simple, control it from a desktop icon if you wish. man ssh man ssh-keygen alias is a bash built in command. It is possible to reverse the mini-b plug so your display will face you! The plastic body is relatively soft, it can be trimmed with a razor knife. Symmetry is the goal here. the cabling is unprotected as it enters the body so be careful to not nick the wires. The led light guide has to go also to make the fit.
