chessplayer, you are absolutely right. Yesterday I made these things work for my goflex on my own. After writing the article I noticed what is going on here. Using UUIDs would make sense if you have two drives with the same label attached. After reading through it makes more sense to use a disk's label. Especially if you need to use a backup drive. Thanks for the hint! cheersby shyd - uBoot
Hi, setenv usb_root LABEL=rootfs doesn't work, as it is altered during boot when running usb_scan. You need to hardcode it in usb_set_bootargsby shyd - uBoot
Hi, are you still searching for solutions? Just came across after setting it up for me and writing it down. I am booting from stick only. It shouldn't be that hard to manage the behavior from 1st post. http://dev.shyd.de/2013/06/booting-with-uuid-not-device-name/by shyd - uBoot
starbuck Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Did anyone know why the installation fails when > another rescue image is used as the v2 from Jeff? > > Doesn't make any sense to me.... Did you install debian earlier with that nand-installation? If so, the old debootstrap remains in nand, the script won't overwrite it. You have to delete iby shyd - Debian

Nice! These four lines delete the new not working debootstrap. The script checks for an installed debootstrap and won't overwrite it. So we need to remove it and run the installer again to extract the older working debootstrap.by shyd - Debian
Just give you some hints: If your devices are on the same network take a look at NFS If you need a secure connection through the internet take a look at sshfs with fuse You won't need any shares for rsync, just do it over e.g. sshby shyd - Debian
There you go: 2.6.38: http://dev.shyd.de/dockstar/config-2.6.38-dockstar-shyd_1.1 3.1.10: http://dev.shyd.de/dockstar/config-3.1.10-dockstar-shyd_1.2by shyd - Debian
I just wanted to test the whole thing, but I can't boot into pogoplug cause of nand-read problems. I have to fix this first. Let's see when I get this done.by shyd - Debian
If you need an installable deb-file, here you go: http://dev.shyd.de/2011/08/minidlna-dockstar-dlna-server/ If you want to update your folders, shut down minidlna and run it with minidlna -R -f /etc/minidlna.conf to rebuild the database. Then start it as normal. Sadly I didn't find a solution to get minidlna notified by inotify about new files. Hope this helps.by shyd - Debian
@Lilipuce: Just coming from your entry on my blog. I currently don't have my 2nd dockstar with me, I can test the whole thing in some days. Once I did, I will try to help you!by shyd - Debian
The fw_setenv is due to missing export PATH=$PATH:/sbin:/usr/sbin Are you sure you have disabled UFW at startup or enabled ssh? If you need to do things in chroot like update-rc.d try it in Pogo by booting into it and then mounting the usb stick in Pogo.by shyd - Debian
Pogoplug:/$ This means you successfully patched the U-Boot but your USB stick didn't boot. You may try another stick and do the installation again.by shyd - Debian
You don't need a serial cable mandatory. Boot into Pogo and do the steps explained here: http://forum.doozan.com/read.php?3,14by shyd - Debian
I think we have to clarify things. Do you mean Mbps (Megabit per second) or MBps (MegaBYTES per second, MB/s)? When you say LAN2LAN is about 12.5Mbps you probably mean MBps, because your connection is 100Mbps. 100Mbps/8=12.5MBps (MB/s). Which means that you use 100% of your maximum speed. Now you have a Wifi connection with 54Mbps. Divided by 8 = 6.75MBps including all headers and frame datby shyd - Debian
If your laptop doesn't support N draft 1.5Mbps are acceptable rates. If you copy a huge amount of small files the transfer rate decreases, that is normal. What rates do you get when copying large files?by shyd - Debian
Did you try data transfer without wifi? If you reach higher transfer rates with 100/1000Mbit there might be a problem with your wifi connection. Look at the hotspot's channels around and choose a none taken channel to minimize collisions with other networks or wireless phones if your N uses 2,4GHz. Also try data transfer from NTFS to NTFS without using the dockstar. What are the rates then?by shyd - Debian
Hi qingz, I couldn't find a specific module for your WLAN-stick in gorgone's config. Can you tell me which module is loaded to make the stick work? lsmod |grep rtl #or awll or sth fit to your wifi Then I'll try to make a new build for you.by shyd - Debian
Hi Peter, great to hear that you finally got it running flawlessly!by shyd - Debian
I did it another way: http://forum.doozan.com/read.php?2,4244,4587#msg-4587by shyd - Debian
Well I figured it out! When Jeff was publishing his script, debootstrap was in v1.0.26, now it's v1.0.29 which seems to conflict with the pkgdetails the script pulls from Jeff's server. I've read solutions in these forums to modify the return-values of functions in the script as a quick and dirty way. That's not what I wanted to do... The thing I did was to grab my firstby shyd - Debian
Hi Peter, I think you are the one who posted on my blog and asked for I2C support. Some days ago I sent an email to you with a new version of my kernel. Did you try it?by shyd - Debian
Did you follow the example given there? hd-idle -i 0 -a sda -i 300 -a sdb -i 1200 This will disable the spindown by default and enable it for the specified drives, like 5min for sda and 20min for sdb. Of course you need to restart hd-idle to make the changes take affect.by shyd - Debian
This is because the hostname is not beeing solved by your DNS server (router). Try to add an entry with the hostname and ip of the dockstar, then it should work fine. The dirty possibility would be to add an entry to your computer's hosts file. But try solving the issue by configuring your router.by shyd - Debian
It should be no problem to upgrade the kernel. Just make a backup of /boot: cp -r /boot/ /path/to/bak And yes it is that easy! :-)by shyd - Debian
I didn't check all your config, but did you add the new user to the smb-user? Instead echo to smbusers try: smbpasswd -a user #add smbpasswd -e user #enableby shyd - Debian
I didn't try it, but take a look at the parameter -a: http://hd-idle.sourceforge.net/by shyd - Debian
Hi, afaik there is no possibility to spin down a HDD with the rootfs on it. There are running cronjobs, processes needing frequent access to the disk and so on. In addition you probably have swap on the same disk, so there are accesses nearly all the time. My brother spent days getting his Linkstation silent during idle... no luck so far. Now we are working on booting it from a USB stick.by shyd - Debian
@John Doe: Pogoplug will boot if the arcNumber is changed. @Maddy: Forget about the arcNumber-thing so far and install heavykernel.deb to get LED support. It's simple to handle and you will be able to run most devices such as usb-wifi, usb-sound... You will get in touch with the arcNumber just if decide to build your own kernel.by shyd - Debian
If you want it to flash and more modules install heavykernel and edit the two files: http://forum.doozan.com/read.php?2,582by shyd - Debian
