After getting OMV4 up and running, I was trying to see how to add Plex. The wiki points to an old version and the last comment in the thread says we need to compile. Is it worth on this box? Can it be done within OMV4? All I found was to install the plex package via docker. Starting to think just run samba on it and keep it simple stupid. Thanks in advance.by su_A_ve - Debian
FYI - note that for OMV 4 you need to use Debian 9 (Stretch) and not Debian 10 (buster). I had issues with OMV 5 and Debian 10 on my GoFlexNet which also has 128Mb of memory.by su_A_ve - Debian
I did get OMV5 installed in the end. But it was taking up all memory and kept having issues mounting drives and timeouts. Went back to OMV4 and this is now running good for a few days. Backed up about 750Gb of movies and photos.by su_A_ve - Debian
Never mind. There's a few different ways on using additional space on the system disk. I used the raid method. # Create new file system in additional space - Using /dev/sdb here # fdisk /dev/sdb (create new partition using rest of disk) # Format ext4 mkfs.ext4 -L Data1 /dev/sdb3 # Create raid partition via cmd line mdadm /dev/md100 --create --force --level=linear --raid-devices=by su_A_ve - Debian
Update - so I'm running OMV on a 256GB drive on USB. sda1 is rootfs sda2 is swap sda3 is data But it looks like the whole drive needs to be wiped in order to create and/or add a file mount under sda3? TIA.by su_A_ve - Debian
Yes. I have a 256mb swap partition. I started from scratch one more time... And OMV4 NOW WORKS! Noticed a couple of things. I already had the latest uBoot When adding swap, the instruction say 'default' instead of 'defaults' - I added /run as well: LABEL=swap swap swap defaults 0 0 none /run tmpfs defaults,size=20M 0 0 Don't miss modifying hostname anby su_A_ve - Debian
Started clean again. This time, I did not switched to systemd and did not add /run to fstab. A few seconds after I start the OMV4 installation, I am still getting again kswap0 page allocation failures. The installation did fail however: Errors were encountered while processing: collectd openmediavault E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1) Collectd won't stby su_A_ve - Debian
Thanks. Obviously OMV5 doesn't work. I grabbed an unused 256GB and used it on a USB2 case. Here's what I've done so far as I wasn't sure of the instructions for OMV4 since I already had the latest uBoot. * Created 8Gb partition (primary, rootfs) * Created 256Mb partition (swap, swap) * Installed 4.12.1 root image * Booted and upgraded kernel to 5.2.9 * Changed to syby su_A_ve - Debian
Thanks for all your help. Learning a lot here on how Debian works.by su_A_ve - Debian
So goal to revive this Goflex Net was to install OMV. Have latest kernel and u-Boot. Wiki instructions from late last year are for OMV 4. But the OMV forum has instructions for 5 here: https://forum.openmediavault.org/index.php?thread/25062-install-omv5-on-debian-10-buster/ Has anyone else tried it by any chance? My installation not sure if it even went through but now CMD is extreby su_A_ve - Debian
So now I see - if netconsole detects the ip of the receiver up, it'll send the commands to it. Otherwise, they go to serial. But what about this? This wasn't before with the old uBoot... Reset IDE: ide_preinit failed Unknown command 'mmc' - try 'help' Loading envs from usb 0... ** File not found /boot/uEnv.txt ** Loading envs from usb 1... ** Bad deviceby su_A_ve - Debian
And followup... After "Starting kernel ..." I don't get any more output from netconsole. It seems the OS starts to boot and output goes back to the serial console and not to netconsole. Anyway to continue to get the output? In case fsck doesn't work for example? TIA.by su_A_ve - Debian
Thanks for all the help. Running 5.5.1 and latest uBoot, and got netconsole working. But seeing this output which is not on the serial connection: U-Boot 2017.07-tld-1 (Sep 05 2017 - 00:17:19 -0700) Seagate GoFlex Net gcc (Debian 6.3.0-18) 6.3.0 20170516 GNU ld (GNU Binutils for Debian) 2.28 Hit any key to stop autoboot: 0 Initializing devices... starting USB... USB0: USB EHCI 1by su_A_ve - Debian
And one more thing... Simulated a power failure. That is, I just unplugged the unit (which will happen no matter what even if I have a UPS on it). But on bootup, it wanted me to run fsck manually. Is there a way to automate this? Otherwise, I'd had to keep serial console on this right? Or is this taken care of on newer u-boot?by su_A_ve - Debian
Works! Thank you!! Also performed the steps under Note 1, changed root password and updated timezone. SSH also works so can disconnect serial cable. Now, chicken and egg question - Should I update to 5.5.1 kernel first or latest U-Boot first?by su_A_ve - Debian
Tried a different flash drive - same results.by su_A_ve - Debian

I did step 4. Here's the output of what I did. In case I missed something, there it is again. But still nothing happens after booting the kernel. Looking into what to do with an old GoFlex, I figured let's try to play with openmediavault or something and got here. I followed the instructions to create a USB stick with 5.2.9. And nothing happens after booting the kernel. Thanks in advance.
