In order to have a convenient automatic data backup I wanted to have something similar to Time Machine from Apple Mac OS X. The program Back in Time did a good job in the past on my Ubuntu 12.04 server, so I wanted to use it also on the Dockstar server in console mode with Debian 7 (wheezy). At the Dockstar the backup media is another USB-Stick (4 GB). It runs automatic with a cron job, wby Rudolf - Debian
@cheeto4493 In order to NOT installing U-boot with the debian installation script you just have to comment 2 lines in the script: #echo "Installing Bootloader" #/tmp/install_uboot_mtd0.sh --noprompt By the way, I have hostet the new Debian wheezy installation script from iSKUNK! on my server. wget http://www.rudiswiki.de/debian/kirkwood.debian-wheezy.new.sh Regards, Rudolfby Rudolf - Debian

Hello, I have now updated 2 DockStar to Debian wheezy. It was a long procedure, because all the know how is in the forum, but very much distributed. Hello Thomas, I have the TP-Link TL-WN321G WiFi Adapter (from amazon.de) in use and documented on my Wiki: http://www.rudiswiki.de/wiki/DockStarWLAN What was the most difficult part, was the automatic cable/WiFi switching. Regards, Rudolfby Rudolf - Debian

Hello Rufus, VLC should do so, but I do not know the parameter setup. VLC is both a streaming server and client, beside of being a media player. In order to use VLC as a streaming client for mjpg-streamer, setup: In the menu "media/open network stream/network protocol" you enter the address e.g. http://192.168.17.92:8008/?action=stream and click on play. Hello gorgone, Sorry for the misunderstanding. What I mean is, that setting up a source chain is very time consuming. So it is convenient to copy it from one USB-stick to the next (e.g. /use/src/linuc-2.6.35.4). Now, if I download your anonymous dockstarheavy.deb , or give the link to someone else, and it does not match the kernel version in the installed source chain, you either have toby Rudolf - Debian

Hello, Cross compiling in Ubuntu 1004 works now, bugfix was: 1. Error message: objcopy: Unable to recognise the format of the input file Fix: This seems to be an kernel-package issue. Hello gorgone, It is very nice, if you are busy to produce new kernel packages (dockstarheavy.deb), but if you want to compile source code the source code must match the kernel version. And if you want to tell people where to get a new kernel package you have a moving target. I am just preparing a DockStar for my son, and also check my documentation on web page http://www.rudiswiki.de/wikiby Rudolf - Debian
Hello twinclouds, The WN321G works very good at my site. I only had a problem streaming a WebCam with mjpg-streamer as a server via WLAN. The streaming client was Firefox on windows XP. Now I tried VLC portable Ver. 1.1.4 as a streaming client (640 x 480 px). In 2 hours no disconnection. With Firefox a connection lasted maximum 30 minutes. In VLC the streaming address was http://192.168.17.by Rudolf - Debian
Hello twinclouds, I am sorry, I gave you a link to a wrong firmware ar9271.fw. Correct is: The firmware I downloaded then from: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/dwmw2/linux-firmware.git Click at ath9k_htc from 2010-09-08 on snapshot, the file linux-firmware-b5ce48e.tar.gz will be generated and downloaded. Extract ar9271.fw (51.280 bytes) and put it in /lib/firmware, that worked.by Rudolf - Debian

@ gorgone & @ Mosci That was the trick: apt-get install libncurses5-dev Now it works with make menuconfig - Thank you very much. Regards, Rudolfby Rudolf - Debian
Hello Mosci, I have checked for libncurses5, it is installed. Unfortunately the ncurses check is very cryptic for me: /usr/src/linux-2.6.35.4/scripts/kconfig/lxdialog # Check if we can link to ncurses check() { $cc -xc - -o $tmp 2>/dev/null <<'EOF' #include CURSES_LOC main() {} EOF if [ $? != 0 ]; then echo " *** Unable to find the ncurses lby Rudolf - Debian
Hello Mosci, Have you enabled in the kernel config the debug support for the ath9k_htc driver? That gave me the problem with the unknown symbol ath_print. If yes, and you tell me how you have set the config flags, I might give it another try. At the moment I am still fighting the problem with menuconfig, which tells me that I do not have installed ncurses, while I have. Regards, Rudolfby Rudolf - Debian
Hello mosci, Thank you for the positive answer regarding the ath9k_htc driver. I just compiled it by myself with the 2.6.35.4 kernel from gorgone. Now it loads without error, but if I say "up" the Dockstar locks. The firmware ar9271.fw was loaded OK. usb 1-1.4: ath9k_htc: Transferred FW: ar9271.fw, size: 53368 So I am back to my solid WN321G, which works. Regards, Rudolfby Rudolf - Debian

Hello Jeff, Now after the dust has settled I still have some bugs in the cross compiling with objcopy, e.g.: objcopy --only-keep-debug /usr/src/linux-2.6.35.4/debian/linux-image-2.6.35.4-dockstar/usr/lib/debug/lib/modules/2.6.35.4-dockstar/kernel/drivers/hid/hid-wacom.ko objcopy: Unable to recognise the format of the input file `/usr/src/linux-2.6.35.4/debian/linux-image-2.6.35.4-dockstar/usby Rudolf - Debian
Hello EWTUC, I have not tried the conversion, because I got striped pictures only. If I waved a hand in front of the camera I could see a moving, but that's it. The CPU load (DockStar) in YUV streaming (5 fps) was 30% at 320 x 240 pixel and 100% at 640 x 480 pixel. So I gave up, not trying the YUV-JPEG conversion.
