The frequency of power failures in my area is high and each time I have to do a filesystem check manually for the dock to boot from USB again. I wanted to know how I can mount the / partition as read only. What all changes are to be made etc. Can someone point me to a good guide on how to do it?by varkey - Debian
My debian filesystem get corrupt every time there is a power failure and I have to manually run an fsck so that it boots again. The issue is, when the filesystem contains error it doesn't go into rescue system, but gets stuck during boot. Is there any solution to this problem? Can it be configured in such a way that if its shutdown due to a powerfailure, it has to go to rescue system, runby varkey - Rescue System
^ When I check the dmesg on debain, it usually shows the device name etc for eg /dev/sdb1 when you connect the hard disk. But in the rescue system it stops before that just like shown above. How do I find the device name to mount the hard disk?by varkey - Rescue System
^ Thank you so much. Everything is working perfectly now. :)by varkey - uBoot
Thank you Jeff, its working fine. I have two drives connected, one flash drive with debian and another USB hard disk for storage. Do I have to make any changes so that it boots always from the flash drive, like you had posted earlier while using the old uboot?by varkey - uBoot
The place where I am using my dockstar, there are many power cuts and sometimes after a power failure the device fails to boot from the USB drive into debian. On running fsck on the drive from a different machine, I can see that there are many errors and they are fixed. After connecting the flash drive back to the dockstar it boots into debian fine. Now nothing can be done about the frequent pby varkey - Debian
Didn't notice that you had updated the instructions. So with the new commands, will it work even if I connect the devices in a different order?by varkey - uBoot
Solved my problem! :) If the drive which you have connected is not having a linux partition, then the primary OS drive should be connected to the first USB port. I was using an NTFS drive and hence the ext2fs_ls threw an error and the device goes into an indefinite reset loop. ^ You can get the dockstar for $36 from Seagate Store - promo code 'seagatestorage' http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/products/network_storage/freeagent_dockstar/by varkey - Debian
Yes even I am looking for a good solution for this! Please update if you find anything.by varkey - Debian
I tried this method, but it doesn't seem to work! :( I connected two flash drives, one with the debian install and another one which is NTFS for storing the data. But when both flash drives were connected the system failed to boot. But once I removed the 2nd Flash Drive, it booted to debian without any issue. I used to fw_setenv command and verified it using the fw_printenv command.by varkey - uBoot
Thank you very much Jeff! This is working perfectly! :)by varkey - uBoot
Hello I installed debian on a flashdrive yesterday but it failed to boot into debian. Later, once I was back to the pogoplug install, I connected the same flashdrive and checked the dmesg output and noticed that it goes in a cycle and is not working properly. I tried all 3 ports and the result is the same. Here is the dmesg log. [ 294.180000] usb-storage: device found at 4 [ 294.180000by varkey - Debian
^ Did you install it in the internal NAND or a USB flash drive? Jeff - If I want to install it in the internal NAND, can I use the same installer provided I replace the existing bootloader?by varkey - Debian
Thanks for replying. Can you tell me how to go about doing it? I just got my dockstar yesterday. :)by varkey - Debian
Will I be able to install this in the internal NAND?by varkey - Debian
