Thanks bodhi! As I said - not a big deal, as I am not planing to use the original Pogo OS ever again ... Knowing that it would still be there as a kind of a rescue system would be cool though - so I am looking forward to seeing the u-boot envs settings allowing this. My next step now will be to upgrade the kernel. Thanks again!by zwalex - uBoot
I have installed U-Boot according to this thread and I am running Debian with kernel 3.17. In the OP ist says: "After flashing this U-Boot, it still will be possible to boot back to stock OS" I tried to do that but it seems to me it doesn't ... If I unplug the USB stick with the Debian rootfs on it and power cycle the box, I cannot connect to it any more. It still has the sameby zwalex - uBoot
I purchased this (and this) on eBay. I am all thumbs and just wanted to make sure that this would make a good serial cable for my Pogoplug, before I plug it in and fry my board ... Thanks!by zwalex - uBoot
@grayman4hire - I am running the Pogoplug Pro FDT, but I have not yet upgraded to the 3.18 kernel. From your response I am assuming that the RT3090 on-board wifi will work with the 3.18 (and higher ...) kernel?by zwalex - uBoot
Thanks bodhi! Yes, I installed firmware-ralink and wpasupplicant (and wireless-tools, ...) according to this post on qnology.com from grayman4hire. I will try upgrading to the latest kernel and then report back. Thanks again!by zwalex - uBoot
Thanks bodhi! What kernel version do I have to go to so that the PogoplugPro's on-board WiFi will work? I don't get it working with the 3.17 kernel. Thanks and Cheers!by zwalex - uBoot
Thanks Leggo! Yes, I will slowly upgrade to kernel and rootfs. My kernel is only 3.17 right now # uname -r -> 3.17.0-oxnas-tld-1 How can I find out my rootfs 'version'? I think, I have the latest U-Boot version, though. If I do # sudo grep -a --null-data U-Boot /dev/mtd0 the output is U-Boot 2013.10-tld-4 (Sep 08 2014 - 19:43:38) for OXNASBTby zwalex - uBoot
bodhi Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Evidently you did not have trouble, you saw the > extra step it's for! which is appending the DTB to > the zImage to make the uImage. Thanks bodhi! I am a little confused. I am running a 3.17 kernel and I did not had to run mkimage - just untared your package. The instructions I followed only mention mkimby zwalex - uBoot
Thanks bodhi! I ran the setup looking at the instructions above as well as the ones from here, which are essentially identical - besides that it doesn't use mkimage. I am not reallu sure, why mkimage is even necessary ... (?). In any case - I have Debian running on my Pogoplug Pro now. root@DebianPlug:~# uname -a Linux DebianPlug 3.17.0-oxnas-tld-1 #1 SMP PREEMPT Sat Oct 25 15:59:43by zwalex - uBoot
Thanks so much LeggoMyEggo! I will work through this. I am asuming these set_bootargs_usb=setenv bootargs console=$console root=$usb_root rootdelay=$rootdelay rootfstype=$rootfstype $mtdparts rootfstype=ext2 are uBoot environment settings, to be set with fw_setenv? At the moment I am not sure, how I will do the necessary mkimage. I am on OS X and currently don't have a Linux boxby zwalex - uBoot
I am reading posts here about installing Debian with the latest rootfs and the latest uBoot and I am jumping around between references to topics and I am getting utterly confused. Where exactly do I need to start if I want to install the latest Debian with the latest file system on a stock Pogoplug Pro? Besides that I have SSH access to the device, everything else is stock - stock uBoot, stocby zwalex - uBoot
OK ... I am getting confused about what I need to do in what order, etc. I will start another thread in the Debian section, because that's what I eventually want to do.by zwalex - uBoot
Thanks bodhi! Is it this thread? It's a little bit over my head ... I am glad I came so far, but I was hoping there is a script for the uBoot update for the V3 devices as there is one for the others ... Checking the above thread step by step. My /etc/myd looks like this: /tmp # cat /proc/mtd dev: size erasesize name mtd0: 08000000 00020000 "NAND 128MiB 3,3V 8-bit"by zwalex - uBoot
Before I brick my device - does the uBoot update script mentioned here work for a PogoplugPro? When I run it, it explicitely says: This installer will only work on the following devices: Seagate Dockstar Seagate GoFlex Net Seagate GoFlex Home Pogoplug v1 Pogoplug Pink (v2) Do not run this installer on any other device. My uname -a says: Linux PogoplugPro 2.6.31.6_SMP_820 #96 SMby zwalex - uBoot
Hooray! I managed to hack the stupid password thing! Through the https:// ... /HBPlug?action=command interface, I could see that there were two shadow password files: /etc/shadow and /etc/shadow- I made a save copy of these files and then deleted /etc/shadow and copied /etc/shadow- as /etc/shadow Voila! Now I can login via SSH with root/ceadminby zwalex - uBoot
That's what I see on my settings/security page on pogoplug.com (see attached). I should change the title of this thread, saying "why can't I log in via SSH?". The root password obviously is ceadmin, SSH/dropbear is runningby zwalex - uBoot
bodhi Wrote: > If you can register the Pogo at their website, > then you shoul be able to activate SSH using that > page. Did you look for that option at the website? Thanks. As I mention in my OP, I acn register the Pogoplug at their web site, but I do not see the 'activate SSH' option under Settings/Security. I actually can access the device via SSH, but I am gettingby zwalex - uBoot
OK, with https://my_pogoplug_id/sqdiag/HBPlug?action=command I obviosly cannot run an editor or fdisk via this web interface, but I can issue commands like mount, ls, ..., etc., but now what? I really don't understand why I can logon as root the backdoor way, but not via SSH.by zwalex - uBoot
OK, this is interesting ... I was looking at the 'backdoor' SSH activation method, by going via the https://my_pogoplug_ip/sqdiag page to start dropbear (which in my case it already is, as I can access via SSH ...). And then just gave it a try to enter the URL in a browser. I am prompetd for a userID/password and am entering root/ceadmin and get the sqdiag web page. I can see that droby zwalex - uBoot
I am having a similar issue like mentioned here, although mine is that I cannot _change_ my SSH password ... I have a PogoplugPro, that I got used a couple of years ago. I was playing around with it then and I seem to remember that I activated SSH access and set an SSH password - no idea what it was anymore though. Then the device went into a drawer for a long time. I just recently bumped into yby zwalex - uBoot
