I got the new SSD and I am trying to set it up. Your uboot is installed on the box (I had an older version of your debian releases running for a year) so that means I need to prepare the SSD only since your uboot will recognize them? The issue is that as far as I can see I need to install 'linux-image-5.19.2-kirkwood-tld-1_1.0_armel.deb' on the box, but I don't have a workingby kiesel - Debian
Thank's, I'll replace the internal HDD with an SDD and install there. I remembered that the reason for using a USB key in the first place was that otherwise the HDD can't spin down, and a SSD of course doesn't have that problem.by kiesel - Debian

Hi bodhi, thank you for your reply. I will switch to sysvinit and hope it helps. Regards, Kieselby kiesel - Debian
Hi, with the help of bodhi (thank you again) I installed uBoot 2017.7 and Linux Kernel 5.5.1 on my Zyxel 310. Everything seems to work fine when the box boots up. I was able to install some things and I was generally very satisfied with everything. But now I noticed that the NAS disappears from the network. It's like it isn't connected to the router at all. The lights are on andby kiesel - Debian
Thank you for the info, that's what I will do then. Any guesstimates for how long such a stick would last? I mean are we talking months or weeks here, since writes degrade a usb stick. And would it be better, performance wise, to create the swap partition on the usb stick? Or would that degrade the stick too fast?by kiesel - uBoot
If you dont have any USB rootfs plugged in, and only want to boot with HDD, then the HDD should have 1 partition labeled as rootfs, and all other partitions are data, or swap. That's what I have. Thanks again for your help. As a side note: I noticed that I can't get the disk to spin down, which of course draws more power than necessary (for my use case). Is it recommended to haby kiesel - uBoot
I am not sure I understand. The NAS boots correctly and my HDD has three partitions, one of them is labeled as rootfs. Is that not right?by kiesel - uBoot
I lost my temper and took the HDD out of the case. Everything works as expected now. Thank you VERY much for your help and your patience!by kiesel - uBoot

That boots, but from the HDD. I thought I had to boot from USB first to change the uImage on the HDD? I can't switch the images in a live system, can I? The plan is to change the uImage on the HDD back to the older one, right? /edit: I noticed that dtb_file wasn't set, so after setting it I was able to boot from USB setenv dtb_file /boot/dts/kirkwood-nsa310.dtb I successby kiesel - uBoot

I am using the tools from "https://forum.doozan.com/read.php?3,27280" which I copied onto an ext3-formatted usb stick. The NSA310 listed the stick as /dev/sdb1 and it said it mounted it at /mnt/sdb1 but the folder /mnt/sdb1 was empty (probably because the whole filesystem is read-only.
