Bobaffetthotmail, Outstanding project. Thank you for highlighting this fantastic distribution in this project. I look forward to installing, using and exploring. Paulby z3bram3n - Rescue System
Bohdi, Using my serial adapter I noticed that the device reported trying to boot the prior kernel version 3 instead of the updated 4.2.0 version. Apparently, I made an error editing the cut and paste snippet when I ran the mkimage commands for 4.2.0. I chrooted into the thumb drive and repeated the commands (with the correct edits) and I am back on track. Thanks for all your help, once agaby z3bram3n - uBoot
I chrooted into the /boot directory and ran dpkg -i again. Here is are the messages I was presented with. Not to swift with the lingo but I am learning. I was trying to start clean and reinstall rescue along the way. Doesn't look like I made good progress. NSA320 with your latest uboot. It said it could not proceed until I upgrade u boot but I thought I already had that so I commented out the check. 2015-09-08 19:22:19 (290 KB/s) - `/tmp/rootfs-mtd2.img' saved [28966912/28966912] # Installing Rescue System Erasing 128 Kibyteby z3bram3n - Rescue System
Bohdi, Thanks. I just need to clear the preboot var. I wish I would have logged the output of the dpkg operation. Maybe I can set it up again and capture it. I recall it said something like, "say, your installer says to use this subdirectory but I don't see it so I am going to ignore that." Anyhow, it looks like that is what it did. No modules installed. Paulby z3bram3n - uBoot
I had a problem with running the latest debian kernel. dpkg wasn't able to create the subdirectory with the modules (I think). So I am running rescue. It runs but kicks over to net cat. I am trying to follow the logic but I don't code so I am struggling. How do I force the rescue system to stay on serial? I lose serial after it boots rescue. OK, I searched the forum for other output and found that this is normally reported. I guess I was misinterpreting what the log said. Thanks Paulby z3bram3n - Debian
Granted I don't know if this is history or actually occurring on boot but here is line 1.87 from dimes 1.871303] Creating 9 MTD partitions on "orion_nand":by z3bram3n - Debian
So I got the new test kernel up an running and started getting the sensors set up. I was perusing the dmesg log and saw the partition setup. Is this normal? Does this get rebuilt each boot? I bought this unit off eBay a few years ago and immediately began to hack it to run DavyGravy's debian. It was pretty easy so I didn't explore this before. root@debian:~# dmesg|grep partitionby z3bram3n - Debian
Bohdi, Of course that worked! Thanks. Paulby z3bram3n - Debian
Thanks. I'll do that when I get a chance. I think I installed hylafax and freeswitch on here at some point. I believe they might create additional users. I checked the permissions of the directories and they all had full root privileges Paulby z3bram3n - Debian
Bohdi, and all the others Again, thanks for the great effort and progress you have made here. It's been fun. I tried to update my nsa320 using the test kernel and ran into a problem when running dpkg -i. I got some errors. I had tried this more than once so some of the messages were due to the existence of the test modules for this version. I said "no" to overwrite. But thisby z3bram3n - Debian
PBG4 wrote that the NSA320 has been tested and validated. Will this be available for uploading? Thanks. Paulby z3bram3n - Debian
I think this is very much the same as the pogo cfg file. I did use the init_docstar proc when the software command didn't get a proper halt. Read through the cfg file to see other procs available. The Openocd manual has some good stuff on the config file if you are curious. It explains some of the variables used in the config file. pi@raspberrypi ~ $ cat /usr/share/openocd/scripts/boardby z3bram3n - uBoot
That is great! I am looking forward to controlling the temperature on my NSA320! Paulby z3bram3n - Debian
Yes, I will post my cfg file and some notes on idiosyncrasies I experienced so that others might benefit. It might be a few days since I am away from my home desk Perhaps I can log in remotely. Paulby z3bram3n - uBoot
Ok, so that worked out. I was finally able to write to the nand in the telnet terminal. Once that took I was golden. The Raspi is great for this since it is self contained and networked. I made a few changes to the pogo.cfg to address the dockstar. A few changes I didn't make since I was too tired but did want to try such as switching on the fast downloads. Thanks Bohdi and joerg99, I had already compiled OpenOCD on my Raspi. I was sorting through the pictures to get the connections right. I'll keep you posted. I use the adapter to match the small pitch on the dockstar. That's pretty handy and I have the 3.3v serial connection. Paulby z3bram3n - uBoot
Nice work. Thanks. I am about to try this on a Dockstar. I wrote a zyxel uboot to the device by accident. I had done the TIAO JTAG on this unit before but I don't want to find my pc with parallel port and compile the software again. I found the cfg file for a Dockstar and was comparing to Pogo. That's some very good troubleshooting. I noticed the noise from the serial port but I never put the two together that they would cause an errant signal. But so many times I have had to re-type a command because the noise added extra characters! Paulby z3bram3n - uBoot
Ok bodhi, you really are going to get off that easy tonight! It booted to the usb drive. So there is nothing going on here? Paul PS Is there any way to validate an install other than using it without errors?by z3bram3n - uBoot
No, it stops all by itself. If I type "reboot" from the serial console it ends up at the uboot prompt. [ ok ..] Unmounting temporary filesystems...done. I got my Dockstar upgraded with the new uboot and the new Jessie from a usb stick. I have a serial cable connected to monitor the boot process. OK bodhi, I made it back from the edge. Thanks. I setup the usb stick with the latest fs and typed boot at the uboot prompt. It found the fs and booted. I then did the rescue install. Now I am relearning hylafax to preserve my retro fax modem (you can still file medical claims via fax -- something you guys not here don't have to worry about!). Thanks again. Paulby z3bram3n - Rescue System
bodhi, Okay! When I get a chance later I will set up a thumb drive. I had been searching for such instructions on the site but there are so many different things going on I couldn't sort out which I needed. So, I want to set up a usb drive with the file system. I am guessing your signature has the necessary fs. Thank you very much. Paulby z3bram3n - Rescue System
Well . . . I can still boot to the uboot prompt. Can I flash from there? Yes, this is a dockstar. I had used a jtag on it a few years back but I'm pretty rusty. I can read from USB and tftp too. So shouldn't I be able to load something? Thanks. Paulby z3bram3n - Rescue System
I first submitted my request for help under the Macplug string since that is what I have installed. But I was trying to install the Rescue system over it so I am putting it here. I ran into the following problem trying to update my Dockstar/Macplug to the rescue system. I eventually want to install the wheezy or squeeze but ran into similar problems and thought I would try something else to getby z3bram3n - Rescue System
It's been a while since I installed the macplug. I want to replace it with a debian installation to make a fax server using sendfax, efax, or hylafax. But I keep running into hurdles. Right now when I try to run the wheezy install using the script it crashes saying I need to release the MTD0 first. I tried installing the rescue system as well. How do I procede to replace this macplug systeby z3bram3n - Rescue System
Wow! That is an amazing package. I used Bohdi's latest debian on a usb hard drive and plugged into my dockstar (which had Davy Gravy's macplug installed with his modded uboot). I had to try a couple times to get enough room. I ended up making my first partition 10GB! The fusionpbx script is made for ubuntu but it ran on my box without error.
