For a server only, only do "apt-get install samba" so none of that exim4 or cron or other noisy cruft is installed. Just python and some basic libs. Clean and minimal. cifs-utils is only needed for a Samba client. I have "force user" and "force group" set to the same user and group I mount my HD as (fat32), so I don't need to change the mount command or pby cde - Debian
Unless your tmp is non-volatile, it would defeat the purpose. drift file is used to help ntpd sync faster as the service starts, and that's typically after reboot. The bug fix would be to correct the folder permissions on the buster rootfs, not a custom configuration of the drift file location.by cde - Debian
Per https://salsa.debian.org/pkg-ntp-team/ntp/-/blob/master/debian/ntp.postinst the current and the previous few versions even before Jessie should have had chown ntp:ntp /var/lib/ntp /var/log/ntpstats The config is not set to use /var/log/ntpstats so the wrong uid isn't an issue, but it is set to use the drift file, and that's likely part of my clock issue in buster. The ntp init files show that it starts as -g. -gq is set time, ignoring any large drift, and immediately quit. If it does it implicitly, then it doesn't work. Messages show that it's binding to the right interfaces by that point, so networking is up. By bringing it down, running the one shot, and bringing it back up, the time is updated immediately instead of 10+ minutes past boot.by cde - Debian
Typically, if it's in /usr/local/ whatever, the owner should be root (and group more often than not should be root too) and permissions set to rwxr-xr-x (755). The shairport-sync user should still be able to use those like that. To check for messages, "dmesg" for the kernel log, which is on a circular buffer. Same thing with the syslog, use "logread | grep -v dhclient"by cde - Debian
Part of the ntpdate depreciation is that they removed the ifuphooks that would set the time once the interface goes up. I worked around this by having the following in rc.local: service ntp stop ntpd -gq service ntp start ntpd -gq is a one shot set and quit command for ntpd. You have to have the service stopped so that it can bind to the ports. Then you can turn it back on. Not as goodby cde - Debian
Done so and it worked. But I'm having a few issues with the Buster image. One, it takes a while to boot, and on top of that, SSHD takes 4 minutes after boot to kick in. This may be an entropy thing. The latest kernel seems to have helped by a minute. And NTP isn't picking up the correct time for over 5 minutes. Last, I'm getting kswapd0 alerts like https://forum.doozan.comby cde - Debian
Dockstar, currently on U-Boot 2016.05-tld-1, with the Jessie rootfs 4.40. Want to upgrade to the Buster rootfs. And might as well go to the latest kernel at the same time. But I am confused about the instructions. My envs are mostly the default from U-Boot 2016.05-tld-1, and per the instructions thats the same for 2017.07. The kernels only have a step 4 that includes either A, modify envby cde - Debian
Old topic, but this may be relevant. I was having similar issues installing samba on my Jessie build DockStar. Broken Dependencies stating: samba : Depends: update-inetd but it is not going to be installed Looking into update-inetd (or some intermediates), like you: Depends: perl (>= 5.6.0-16) but it is not going to be installed but 5.20 was install. How difficult would it be to upgrade your latest Rootfs from Jessie to Stretch. From what I gathered, I should skip the "dist-upgrade" and avoid upgrading the kernel since it would be an unpatched and thus not too dockstar friendly. Would it be enough to just change the apt sources to say stretch and update/upgrade?by cde - Debian
Update: I got the usb rootfs from your link, thanks to my 11 year old DamnSmallLinux usb boot drive lol. Update 2: Ignore the previous edit. The first flash drive I used continued to give I/O errors. Old, garbage. A second drive worked great. In the Debian 4.4.0 build. Now how can I get this or a recovery on the on-board flash? I rather not need a flash drive. Boot and Environment, of the current borked up dockstar. I gotta pull a laptop so I can setup the usb drive for now (on my mac, can't set up Fuse right now.) Ideally, I want to install that debian build on the internal flash, or a recovery or something. Even the original pogo would be nice, but since I hosed it :/ U-Boot 2016.05-tld-1 (Jun 12 2016 - 13:34:27 -0700) Seagate FreeAgent Doby cde - Rescue System
Have a stock Dockstar. Had a very old U-Boot. Decide to update it before making any changes, no usb boot disk or anything. Followed http://projects.doozan.com/uboot/ rebooted, worked. Then followed Section A of http://forum.doozan.com/read.php?3,12381, also worked. But then I try Section B. Did not work. I get: ## Booting kernel from Legacy Image at 00800000 ...
