Well, just to say Iceweasel doesn't run after install, but lots of people everywhere have that problem - I've seen some real small versions of Firefox too in my Thin clients on Linux but they're way earlier versions. But my policy is usually: 1. not to run Flash on any machine I care about, 2. use Ghostery with bubble alert turned off and every possible thing blocked except twby JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Debian
brought out my inner comic :-D There's only one thing this lacks on the E02, either a browser that supports Ghostery or a standalone file downloader that's break resistant. The company I beta test has files for me at app.box - a dropbox-style uploader that's probably real secure (and supposedly resumable but only one Windows app works and i can't afford it). Any ideas?by JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Debian
Imagine the wide open spaces of 256 MB RAM on the E02. This works perfect here and I can't imagine a Pogoplug without that option from now on. Absolutely brilliant how you've got it so the processes of the GUI are mostly not on until demand from RDP. The reason I was inspired to try this on the E02 is because of the problem solving earlier today (Pogoplug Pro) with permissions for Tby JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Debian
To be perfectly fair, I went to Windows (7 x64) Device Manager and uninstalled the entry, and it does work now. Whether or not i try to return/exchange this within the next week is unknown, but wish me luck getting together the jing for a comparable Seagate portable and from then on I'll stick with regular hard drives and SSDs (little ones lol). That click freaked me out, and I assumeby JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic
Cool, I've got a quite powerful bulk eraser from the VHS days. Also for what it's worth, Best Buy asked me to bring in my desktop to replicate the problem, and I told them I'd try some other computers to make sure. And it displayed when plugged into a Win7x86 laptop! And now nothing in the x64 desktop. So we have an intermittent! I can understand Best Buy or any other company makby JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic
Just a head'sup, the WD My Passport Ultra 1TB Portable External Hard Drive USB 3.0 I bought last week isn't recognized and gives an occasional click. I babied it and kept it on safe surfaces, only used it long enough to copy 750 GB of data. Further evidence I treated it like a baby is my lack of concern of any lost data - I didn't move anything there, only copied. To boot it wasnby JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic
Gents, Pogoplug > Samba might not be in the cards here. I've tried E02 Debian (fail) and Pro > OpenWRT (fail too) and what I've learned is, this is higher than my skill level. While I don't see easy documentation on the web, maybe someone does. On a good note, I haven't whacked anything, can't complain there. Appreciated, better real safe than real sorry is probably my motto. Found my 10-watt power adapter so I'm clearing an old SATA to use as a guinea pig. Since I've got some time to kill, you know there's one thing Pogoplug-specific I've never gotten to the bottom of. When you plug in another drive, I still don't understand how to know what it's name is. "sdb1&by JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic
Just letting you know, I'm copying everything from the G-Connect (Hitachi 500 GB) and will get a swap partitioned ASAP. So the G-Connect will have one swap and one 498 GB FAT32 partition. I'm going real slow but that's been a good policy, in fact now that I think of it I can probably do test runs with drives that are expendible anyway. Can't thank you enough, and hoby JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic
Ah thanks a lot! But don't give up on me yet! Please let me pick your brain one last time this thread and see what you say. I suspect the benefit of restamp's method of having maybe USB stick with the OS on USB port 1, and use the spinning disk for data storage and retrieval. Keep a backup of the 8-GB USB stick of course. But let's say on my 500 GB data drive, what if I forby JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic
Could you recommend a specific 3.5" case for GoFlex Desk so I have a higher likelihood of success? I get all excited you see... As far as the USB 2.0 speed limit of the E02, no problem at all here. Other than that, only one more question if anyone's up for it - which SATAs (whether adapted to E02 or straight to Pro), match closer? SATA 1? II? you know.by JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic

@ bodhi: Sounds great, the only thing I'll change last minute is use a recently bought G-connect 500 GB. White external hard drive for E02 and black for the Pro, makes aesthetic sense. @ restamp: scary stuff, reminds me of a WD Green my neighbor gave me when upgrading his DirecTV receiver and I got his old one. It was 1 /1/2 hours of awesome and then the head parking problem reared itby JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic
This week at Best Buy for $49 they have a WD My Passport Ultra 1TB Portable External Hard Drive USB 3.0. I managed one, and hopefully on a pauper's budget can swing a 2nd one for safety backup. I'd like to use this for home cloud storage, and have choice of Debian E02 or Pros whatever is best for the job. So..... I should be able to just make two partitions on the WD and copy the USB stby JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic
The only thing that crossed my newb mind is wondering if you could set Pogoplug's host name to a static number like your "192.168.0.2"? If that worked (something tells me that's iffy), then your other IP assignment could change with the router. (?) -update- I'm still not able to test this idea, but was hoping to help a brainstorm session.by JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Debian
Like so you could use a static mode for home LAN server on a switch without a router assigning IP and then dynamic mode for when you want router to assign it?by JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Debian
Would they show up even if XFCE wasn't running? Either way is olkay with me but that's a plateau I've been stuck on for a while. If my understanding is correct, the XFCE Desktop you have for Pro is off until a person tries to remote desktop in, then it gets activated, and stays on even after Remote Desktop leaves, until reboot (?). I'd never tried just login out and see ifby JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic
For headless computers like Pogoplug, using Samba (or if you have a better idea), do any of you have NAS that is accessed by different operating systems yet have icons that can be seen from any of the big three OSs? Like a lot of people, I beta test software for Mac and PC, and with new releases and all that it gets confusing real quick without familiar GUI icons. No at least on the E02 Debian it didn't stick or something. I tried that code, rebooted, then entered lusb -bash: lusb: command not foundby JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Debian
I'd ran Cat5-E cable to the next room, and PogoPlug/Debian, all's well. So I have a 500GB USB2 hard drive, and plug it into Pogoplug. I wasn't expecting a Samba folder to appear, but either it isn't recognized or maybe needs security clearance. So being newb-y I searched for code to list what's hooked-up and lusb is one method, but mine says -bash: lusb: command not fby JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Debian

Cheers Don, yeah I wish there were a happy medium between a flash drive and a 1-cord portable hard drive. In the meantime when using USB drive my strategy is to set swap to 4GB-ish, figuring that might spread out the wear & tear. Linux itself doesn't take up too much space and zswap and low swappiness help to minimize the need to swap. Hey, SSDs are NAND, right?by JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic
Great insight Don, thanks a million. A good cautionary tale for anyone else who goes to a thrift store and sees a Thin Client with two monitor jacks and 6 USB and thinks they've got a desktop computer for $7.00! And VIA chips, you've jogged my memory that's a brand I don't have particular fond memories in other places. I can easily see a company committed to a finite lifeby JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Debian
Today for $3 I scored a LiteOn HAU424 external DVD burner/player with a USB attachment on the back. It's from 2009 and has a couple dings. I'm not on fire with dreams of burning DVDs with a Pogoplug, but even if it's got a salvageable adapter to USB then it's worth the $3! The same thrift store has two video frames for $5 apiece but I don't know if it's Pogoplug kosby JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic

-edited-out geomagnetic issues- Thanks for the head's up on Qemu. I took a look at the website and it seems perfect - not only that but I was just sitting here making VMs out of many ISOs on hand and remembered about Damn Small Linux being able to run in Windows. When i clicked on the bat file it fired-up as expected in Windows, but is encapsulated in QEMU!. That was a revelation. Toby JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic
