Installed the latest 4.4.38 kernel and moved the install from the USB to hdd with rsync while I was at it. Most importantly iotop runs now. Have both pogo's v3 and v4 mobile running from hdd's and ready for some network file transfer speed comparison testing. Will post the results soon. On which Debian to run, I ended up testing both stable 8.6, and testing 9. I prefer testing asby JeffS - Debian
Hey bodhi, I'm thinking about installing Debian on one of my x86 box's. Do you do any cross platform compiling? Which version of Debian would you suggest if I wanted to possibly give cc a try, and or just get more familiar with Debian in general?by JeffS - Debian
I installed iotop so I could compare some numbers between pogo's v3 with Debian and v4 with Arch. Sorry about the Debian newb questions, lol. Unfortunately, it looks like on my pogo v3 with Linux 4.1.0, I may need to recompile the kernel with some additional options to get it working? Anyone ran into this and an have a simpler solution than a kernel recompile? Not sure how this stuff worby JeffS - Debian
Thanks for the detailed explanation bodhi, This u-boot stuff is all new, so bear with me. I followed your instructions and can boot with the hdd attached and everything seems ok now. I'm a bit unsure about setting them permanently though. If I understood what I read correctly, I would use the saveenv command from the serial console to write the changes made to the variables in memory to pby JeffS - Debian
Running a pogo pro with Debian, uboot.2015.10-tld-1.ox820 and kernel 4.1.0-oxnas-tld-1. The OS is running from USB plugged into the front port. I'm trying to use a hdd plugged into sata. The hdd has an msdos partition table with 3 partitions, ext3, ext4, plus a swap. I could boot with the hdd attached prior to updating kernel from 3.x.x and older uboot. We used to race on a local drag strip though, so I have mixed feelings about the supposed "street racing" aspect. I use Arch on all my computers but currently giving Debian a spin on a pogo. If you don't like the Arch install process, there are installers out there. The Architect installer probably still works, and Antergos is basically an Arch clone with a GUI installer. Arch has somewhat of a reputation of being bleeding edge and unstable. From my perspective, I've found that the unstableby JeffS - Off-Topic
Has anyone ever figured out how to get into the stock pogo command prompt through the web interface at: https://192.168.xxx.xxx/sqdiag/HBPlug Is there something I could enable in the pogo to allow https? I read where someone claimed to get in using a cell phone web browser. Among many other things, I tried that on a v4 without success. I'm playing with a stock pogo pro now if thereby JeffS - Off-Topic
Yea for the mobiles it wouldn't make much sense. I already have 2 mobiles and don't need anymore. If you would have had the sata versions, it would have been a great deal. The v4 sata version is currently $19.95 each at Adorama. I'm not sure how to distinguish the v4's from the model numbers.by JeffS - Off-Topic
Are these the mobile or the ones with sata connector on top? I would be interested in them if they have sata. I already have a few mobiles, so wouldn't in that case. I hear you with project creep. I bought a soldering kit, a few USB to ttl adaptors, cable adaptors/connectors, etc... More $ invested in the peripherals the the ARM hardware itself, but I still consider it a very inexpensby JeffS - Off-Topic
I use rsync to create bootable backups of my Linux installs. I do have to set up a boot loader to boot them afterwards though. I've used dd for .iso images to USB. Never tried it for hdd, but it should work.by JeffS - Off-Topic
I finally got my USB to ttl adaptor and some time to play. I even figured out how to unbrick my pogo. Woot! I had previously prepared the bricked Pogo by soldered wires onto it from an old 4 pin connector, and then de-soldered a 4 pin header from an old board for a connector. See pic. I installed picocom on my Linux box. Figured out I need to add my user to a group to be able to use picocomby JeffS - Off-Topic
I want to say thanks and I sure appreciate all the info I'm getting. Seems I've stumbled into a great community here! The pogo was my first time looking into an embedded Linux system. It was fun while it lasted and I would like to learn more now. I'm still trying to wrap my head around the differences I found with the stock pogo os vs my Arch desktop systems. I've been trying to work on my new pogo mobile, but it's without ssh. The USB to TTL adaptor I ordered is on it's way but not here yet... It seems the Pogo project / website is on temporary life support. They never sent me a conformation email for registration, which may be needed for ssh activation, not sure. I registered my new v4 and it works, but as others have said, no USBby JeffS - Off-Topic
Hello and thanks JoeyPogoPlugE02 Your info motivated me to try to figure out which model Pogoplugs have which specs. I've put together some notes below. Do I have this right and anything to correct, add, subtract? Id like to stay Arch compatible for now, so the first upgrade would be a V4 "non mobile", after that a V2 if I can find one. I see Newegg has the "office"by JeffS - Off-Topic
This thread is the working thread for adding USB 3.0 capability to the Pogo V3 (OXNAS) plugs. Thanks JeffS for allowing this thread to become the "Pogoplug V3 OXNAS - USB 3.0 on mPCIe" thread. -bodhi -------- JeffS original question: OK, I'm kind of getting hooked on Linux / ARM hacking. Hi bodhi and thanks for the feedback. I'm now a registered doozan forum member! I would consider installing a different version of Linux if I could run the Pogoplug software. I honestly have not looked into it yet. I am much more familiar with Arch compared to Debian though. If all I wanted is a cheap NAS, this would be an easy decision.
