Try to compile something, eg, compile aria2 from source, or try to compile linux kernel Use j4 or j5 option to use all cores. For me, make will go through make -j 2 will go through make -j 3 and up will fail Ordered some heat sink from eBay. Hope that helps. Under normal conditions, it runs very well. Well, for $12, I really should not complain. :-)by daviddyer - Off-Topic
1 Install uboot. Download image here https://github.com/ayufan-rock64/linux-u-boot/releases Use https://github.com/ayufan-rock64/linux-u-boot/releases/download/2017.09-rockchip-ayufan-1065-g95f6152134/u-boot-flash-spi-rock64.img.xz write the image to microsd, boot rock64 with the microsd, wait till the led flashes about once per second. I just waited about 3 minutes to be safe. powerby daviddyer - Off-Topic
Yes. Hat means the display socket (with wires connected to the 1602 i2c lcd display)? The Price match might not work. It was not sold by amazon itself, but by third party.by daviddyer - Off-Topic
Yes. Exactly like that. If you remove the hat that connects to the 1602 i2c board, you can find the 40 pinsby daviddyer - Off-Topic
It's a standard rock64 1gb board. Yes, with GPIO pins. Just search for rock64 board picture. It's a standard one.by daviddyer - Off-Topic
Well, I re-used the RECON1 case, I removed the 1602 i2c module(use that module on rpi 0 w to play), then covered the huge hole on top of the case with some packing tape. I will remove the tape to get better ventilation. Later, I will try to add some heatsink--if I can find one. Since I will remove the tape, I will put a serial cable through the huge hole to debug problems. The rock64 specsby daviddyer - Off-Topic
Well, this board is not good... too much heat... I wanted to use it as NAS / downloader, so I installed armbian and tried to compile aria2. However, make -j3 or up will generate a lot of errors in console / dmesg, So I rebooted...and it never went up... need to physically access it again later.by daviddyer - Off-Topic
You should get the Rock64 deal Ray mentioned a few days ago. That's so much better than Rpi 0 / 0w if you use it as NAS. ( 1GB memory, 4 core CPU, REAL giga ethernet, 1x USB3 + 2x USB 2.0 ). BTW, rpi 0 is single core, 512M After flashing u-boot, you can boot from USB3 hard drive directly. You don't need sd card...by daviddyer - Off-Topic
I think it's just a usb hub with usb ethernet adapter. No CPU/RAM...by daviddyer - Off-Topic
Good deal. eBay has a bundle of Rock64 1GB + Power adapter + 16GB MicroSD for $20+$6 shipping. I guess that bundle was from RECON1 since the seller is "recycl_4_u" I got one from amazon. Only 8GB sd included. Still very good deal.by daviddyer - Off-Topic

Just wait a little longer, sometimes it might take more than 30 minutes to boot.... You have solid green and it's a good sign. I did some research on these and it seems the system was running fsck at that time. And since goflex home / net has failed RTC due to bad battery, the fsck might be often. :Pby daviddyer - Debian
Well, when I had trouble with the M300's SATA SSD boot, I didn't have haveged... I don't think removing haveged will fix it. mikeh49 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > bootcmd runs bootcmd_usb before bootcmd_ide so > does that mean it checks USB and if it fails, > moves on to ide? bodhi Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > > I have not booted the stock SSD enough time to > tell, but I am sure it has no problem either. I think when we use the new root file system on the stock 16GB SSD, it might cause some strange problems, and it is difficult to repeat the problems... :P so I just replaced the 16GB SSD with a hard drive. This is the fw_printenv on the "good" M300, since it is good, I call it M301 because 301>300. :P root@m301:~# fw_printenv |sort CASset=min MALLOC_len=1 autoload=no baudrate=115200 bootargs=console=ttyS0,115200 mtdparts=spi_flash:0x7f000@0(uboot),0x1000@0x7f000(u-boot-env) root=/dev/sda1 rw bootargs_console=console=ttyS0,115200 mtdparts=spi_flash:0x7f000@0(uboot),0x1000@0x7by daviddyer - Debian
Let me just post the fw_printenv here. I did not change anything, even the Mac address. This is on the M300 which used to have trouble with 16GB SATA SSD boot. root@m300:~# fw_printenv |sort CASset=min MALLOC_len=1 arcNumber=11 autoload=no baudrate=115200 bootargs=console=ttyS0,115200 mtdparts=spi_flash:0x7f000@0(uboot),0x1000@0x7f000(u-boot-env) bootargs_console=console=ttyS0,11by daviddyer - Debian

The strange part: I have two M300s, one system had trouble with the 16GB SATAby daviddyer - Debian
From his serial log, haveged was installed. ............. Starting entropy daemon: haveged. ....................by daviddyer - Debian
That's why I asked Bodhi to write a new u-boot for M300 for us. Make M300 great again...by daviddyer - Debian
Well, I have two sets of M300, one had trouble with 16GB SSD SATA boot before (strange errors, even can not duplicate them.. and sometimes, success!!!??? ), the other M300, same settings, also the 16GB SATA SSD, same rootfs, no trouble at all!!! I then changed the first set's 16GB SSD to a normal hard drive, also put a blank 64MB usb flash drive on USB port, and I can SATA boot everytime!by daviddyer - Debian
I set up samba and NFS on both of the systems, but only one of them had the big sshd delay during reboot. After haveged was installed, the sshd delay is not noticed.by daviddyer - Debian
In my experience, haveged really helped to one of my systems which used to take very long to start sshd. It is strange the other system doesn't take that long and I didn't do anything special...by daviddyer - Debian
Bodhi should give us a latest uboot for the M300 to make it perfect. :-)by daviddyer - Debian
Well, we don't need to remove the two screw holders completely. Actually, most of them should still be kept to make the new hard drive rest in horizontal position. So there should be enough air flow for the hard drive.by daviddyer - Debian
Samba performance is not so bad... Anyway, M300 has a faster CPU and SATA... Single 4GB file. W for write R for readby daviddyer - Debian
About SATA boot 1 Copy the USB file system to the SATA hard drive. (Name it rootfs, ext3, one partition, MBR only. NO GPT. IF the hard drive was GPT, install gdisk in Bodhi's root file system and convert it to MBR). 2 Change the USB file system to something like roootfs. (We don't want two rootfs) 3 With serial cable on, power on, interrupt auto boot, then run kernel_configby daviddyer - Debian
...Continued... SSD now removed... Put the 2.5" HD in. The Hard Drive was not in perfect horizontal position because of the two screw holders... Next step will cut some of these screw holders to make it shorter until the hard drive is in horizontal position, then put some double sided sticky pads on the cover of the M300 which will contact the hard drive to secure the hard drive.by daviddyer - Debian
Some pictures on replacing the 16GB SSD to a normal 2.5" hard drive. Remove two screws only... Pull the SSD out.by daviddyer - Debian
Well, I don't think I want to run the stock system ever again ... so I just fdisk / format the SSD when the usb booted successfully. I then removed the 16GB SSD and put one 320GB 2.5" hard drive there, transferred debian to the hard drive and tuned the uboot env to boot directly from hard drive. My cat likes to step on the flash drive... 1 Uboot is kind of old, so use MBR, not GPTby daviddyer - Debian
Looks like M300 has a pretty "strong" CPU... https://www.softprayog.in/troubleshooting/how-to-get-the-value-of-pi-in-bc-calculations apt-get install bc time echo "scale=4000; 4*a(1)" | bc -l ================================= 1.2GHz goflexhome 1m7.236s Dockstar 1m7.026s dreamplug 1m3.545s ================================= 2.0GHz Kace M30by daviddyer - Debian
