please allow me one comment Months ago, when i had the first DS in my hands (and never did any linux installations before), i decided NOT to do this wget-internet-on-the-fly-installation-stuff. So I grabbed the lenny-tarball and modified jeffs script (wget became cp etc), and installed lenny offline, smoothly and fast from usb-stick #2 to #1. Which brings me to one simple questions to allby lou - Debian
ok, to get more "physical", i attached a schematic proposal :) I use the atmega8535 so far (PLCC, ~2E). please ignore the most on the right side (OLED, temp sensors). you will need some basic uC skills; but the uC-firmware for your demand will be quite simple. (i guess it will be a 50-line program in assembler, or 20 lines in C) i will add the left side soon in my setup, toby lou - Debian
just use an bistable relais + an uC like ATtiny wired to serial #1 (console) by RS232 "on" is done by a normal switch to, lets say pos "A" (swichting the relais ; supplying your DS) "off" is done by switching to pos "B" => ATtiny will send a "halt"-command to serial #1 => as soon as ATtiny receives "system halted", he willby lou - Debian
"bastel" provides a dockstar compiled lcd4linux with image support here: http://www.hardwareluxx.de/community/16519271-post1264.html i did'nt test so far. louby lou - Displays
full ack :) concerning goflex net: im still confused, does jeffs actual uboot support boot from sata? is there a "all inclusive" debian available already? (pitty, i'm no kernel hacker;) ) maybe iomega iconnect is an alternative (with wlan) too. its around 67E in germany. regards, louby lou - Debian
Hello community! I managed to modify the uboot-installscript to run from usb. So i just used an CA-42 (nokia) serial cable and an usb stick to do the installation. (no network connected). Next step would be, to do same with debian-squeeze. I checked the "functions" file of "debootstrap_1.0.23.tar" which does the wget-based installation, but to be honest - i would like toby lou - Debian
wow, that was fast, Rudolf :) thanks for the info. i will take a closer look at "moinmoin"... seems to be pretty interesting! regards, louby lou - Debian
Very nice pages and good docu; thanks Rudolf! What "server app" do you use/plan to use on your debian-dockstar to host e.g. your "Heizungs-Page"? I've just seen some drivers etc. on http://www.rudiswiki.de/wiki/DockStarDebian cu, Louby lou - Debian
Thanks yachris & robert :) so by installing jeffs-debian (http://jeff.doozan.com/debian/) i will get this: (http://packages.debian.org/squeeze/ ? I wonder if packages like "x window system" or "tex" are included in jeffs release. (I guess no ;) ) I found RELEASE=squeeze VARIANT=minbase MIRROR=http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ EXTRA_PACKAGES=linux-image-2.6-kirkwoby lou - Debian
Hello community ! allow me the following question (im a linux noob, i confess;) ) what are the (main) advantages of using debian instead of plugbox/arch on the dockstar? as far as i understood: - arch is considered to be "very fast" & small (but you need to do more things "manually") - debian consumes more space, but will support more features/devices natively Iby lou - Debian
