Probably, I did not make it clear when I said that I have managed to install debian wheezy on my Seagate GoFLEX Home device. What I meant is I am not using any existing rootfs tarball provided Bodhi and/or anyone else, but rather built my own from scratch by downloading/installing the packages. In doing so, the process installed vmlinuz kernel file in /boot directory as shown in my OP. AFAIK, a vby habibie - uBoot
I hope this is the right forum to ask the following. If not, please kindly move it to a more appropriate forum. I finally managed to install debian wheezy rootfs on my Seagate GoFLEX Home device. However, the installation created the entries in /boot directory as shown below with vmlinuz kernel image that isn't compatible to uboot. Does anyone here know which debian package I should instaby habibie - uBoot
Hello Bodhi, I just partitioned my 1TB HDD into 7 20-GB partitions + 1 large partition from left over using GPT (cgdisk). Then, I installed ArchLinuxARM OS on /dev/sda1. Now, it boots OK on my Seagate GoFLEX Home device. The next thing to do is to decide whether I will upgrade the existing ALARM uboot with the mainline u-boot to take the advantage of all new features or to install your latestby habibie - uBoot
Bodhi, Thank you. When I get some times, I will try and report back.by habibie - uBoot
Hello Bodhi, I will give it a try to see how it goes. The only problem I can think of right now is do I have to make any necessary changes to the u-boot environments when migrating to GPT? What I tried to say is if GPT still uses the /dev/sdXn, where X can be a, b, c, etc. and n starts from 1 to 128? Another question: After switching to GPT, is it possible to go back to MBR by just using thby habibie - uBoot
Hello Bodhi, Unfortunately, I don't know the u-boot version. IIRC, this was flashed somewhere in 8/2014 by a friend. I believe she just followed the instructions on the ArchLinux ARM site and the procedure automatically upgraded the u-boot. Right now, I don't even know if the original PogoPlug OS on the NAND space is still there or not. However, if I take out the HDD, the LED just keby habibie - uBoot
Hello Bodhi, Thank you for your suggestion on GPT. Is this GPT the same as the gdisk on a debian Wheezy (v7.1.xx)? Currently, I have a 1TB SATA HDD on a Seagate GoFLEX Home flashed with ArchLinux ARM (including the uboot from ArchLinux ARM). If I format my 1TB SATA HDD with gdisk (which will replace its MBR with GPT format), will the existing uboot from ArchLinux ARM be able to work with thby habibie - uBoot
Hello Bodhi, I was hoping to be able to achieve this with a single primary partition for many different OSes, i.e. not limited to 3 OSes as I mentioned above. If I go with your suggestion, perhaps it will be limited to 4 different OSes due to limitation of 4 primary partitions (don't know if logical partition will work)?by habibie - uBoot
I wonder if this is possible to achieve through u-boot. I have a Seagate GoFLEX Home with a 1 TB HDD that I have created 3 partition on it, i.e. 30GB on 1st partition (EXT4 format), 2GB on 2nd partition (SWAP format), and the rest on 3rd partition (EXT4 format). I want to create /alarm, /debian, and /openwrt sub-directories on the 1st partition and install ARM Linux, Debian, and OpenWRT into tby habibie - uBoot

Bodhi, Is there any works/plans in progress update uboot to support envs for FDT kernel?by habibie - uBoot
Bohdi, Before I proceed to flash your uboot to my Seagate GoFLEX NET unit (still running on the original/stock uboot and PogoPlug OS), I perused your post (2014.07 U-Boot for FDT and Non-FDT Kernel - GoFlexNet, GoFlexHome, PogoE02, Dockstar, iConnect, NetgearStora, PogoV4/Mobile, Sheevaplug) and become a bit confused. For a stock uboot environment as pointed out in step #8, is it still necessaby habibie - uBoot

Bodhi, Thank you for your quick response and with the clarifications. Over the recent BlackFriday sale, I saw this Seagate Expansion Portable HDD - 2TB, USB 3.0 - STBX2000401 US$45 (after rebate + coupon + some fillers) and bought one unit. Yesterday, I received the shipment. I opened up the HDD and it is a 2.5" Samsung SpinPoint ST2000LM003 SATA HDD. I plan to create 3 partitions, i.eby habibie - uBoot

I haven't been following up with this forum for quite sometimes. So, I am probably a bit dusty (outdated) w.r.t. the current u-boot version. Anyway, I have a Seagate GoFLEX NET (with a 2TB SATA HDD) and some Seagate Dockstar units. Instead of installing debian ARM to every single Seagate Dockstar unit, I want to setup my Seagate GoFLEX NET with a single folder to install the debian ARM diby habibie - uBoot

Cool. However, will your recommendation work with a GoFLEX Net running on an OpenWRT OS? The reason I asked is the setenv usb_root LABEL=rootfs. shv Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > It might be recommended to use ext3 instead of > ext2 for the rootfs. > > usb_rootfstype=ext3 > > In case you wan't to boot from SATA drive you > coby habibie - uBoot

Just curious about BP mainly because I never heard of it and now am thinking to get one. As with de-bricking a Seagate Dockstar, I am contemplating to get this J-link Jlink V8 ARM Emulator, but I have no idea if this can be used as a JTAG cable. What do you think?
