[GoFlex Net] SATA

Hi there,

I'm confused a little bit.

I got a GoFlex Net, go to get Debian on USB Stick ...
Now it boots from USB, but no SATA Devices are visible.
dmesg | grep sata didn't found anything.

I've read, that it could be the uboot ?

Sorry, can someone take me by the hand ?

uname -a -> Linux debian 3.2.0-4-kirkwood #1 Debian 3.2.51-1 armv5tel GNU/Linux

Best way would be booting from sata, but i can't see it this time

The GFN stock NAND (without the Debain OS) boots into a yellow led flash loop.
No IP, No connect by PP Service Side, no ssh :-(

Or should I install the newer kernel 3.3.2 ?

Tommes,

It is the kernel. The Kirkwood kernel in mainline does not have the GoFlex Net patch so you are probably running the Dockstar version.

You can try either that 3.3.2 kernel, or this 3.12.0 kernel (latest):

Also, at Debian command line, please print both your cpuinfo, and uBoot envs and post the output here (it will confirm which machine you are running as, I'm sure it is not GoFlex Net):

Ok, the 3.12.0 I must see to integrate it into my installation.

I've tried the 3.3.2 Kernel, but one of my main problems is the power supply for my 3,5" HDD
on the sata port(s).
I have replaced the original Power Supply by another one with 6A, cause it should supply my 2x 3,5" HDDs
with 12V too, but i think my problem is actually the 5V rail too, i refer it actually by the Flex, but i think, i must supply
it by extern too. For example on the 12V main power supply with a voltage transformers 12V-> 5V ...

Tommes,

Indeed, you are running the GoFlex Net as the Referrence Board. Meaning it runs as a Sheeva Plug. This is needed because you're running Kirkwood kernel from mainline.

So after you've installed my kernel 3.12 or davy's 3.3.2, you can change the uBoot env arcNumber to the correct one. But before changing any uBoot env, make sure the new kernel is running, and set up netconsole first for recovery purpose (Important)

So:

- Install new kernel, and verify it's running.
- setup netconsole, and make sure you can interrupt it to set uBoot envs if needed.
- Booted into Debian and change arcNumber to 3089:
fw_setenv arcNumber 3089.
- Reboot without the SATA drive. And plug the SATA/eSATA cable in afterward. Verify that the eSATA enclosure or direct SATA connection works.
- We'll post the uBoot envs needed to boot with SATA/eSATA drives attached, after all the above working.

Hi,

I'm new to GoFlex Net. less than a day, but seems very good device. (earlier nas was much much weaker)
I maneged USB boot fine. SATA recognised by kernel. Root fs copied to HDD. But not boot from SATA.
Please help.

Format the HDD as Ext3. Use this latest rootfs (extract to the HDD per instruction):

I made USB ext2 and corrected fstab. it boots. Thank you.
But SATA does not boot.

1Hdd partition 1 is ext3 as you suggested
2named to "rootfshd"

Is this ok?
3extracted bz2 and tried to boot

Netcat shows kernel is started. Why it is not shows if any problem?

Hi,

I inspect USB boot with the new kernel and rootfs. and found goflex boots it two times!
it seems rebooted or something.
After the second boot seems stable.

Robert,

Boot with USB and in Debian get the output of
fw_printenv
and post here.

Netconsole does not show activities after the booting message Starting kernel ... unless you do some extra setup in Debian.

Besides, to see all kernel booting activities, you will need serial console. However, this problem might just be that your uBoot envs need some adjustments to boot the HDD, and we can tell by looking at the listing from fw_printenv if that is the case.

I changed uboot just to try solve problem.
I tried SATA boot but - not booted.

New your latest Uboot is the Nov 02 2013 based on this thread:http://forum.doozan.com/read.php?3,12381

SATA HDD boot solved :)

Solution:
rename hdd disklabel to rootfs.

e2label /dev/sdb1 rootfs
