irtiqa,

There is a couple of problems.

1. While creating the rootfs to run with new u-boot, Step 4 should not be done

Quote

4. Create uImage with embedded DTB for booting with older u-boots (2012 or earlier). Skip this step if you have installed the latest U-Boot for Kirkwood (or are installing this u-boot at the same time).

Please replace kirkwood-goflexnet.dtb below with the correct DTB name for your box (see the folder /media/sdb1/boot/dts for the exact spelling of your Kirkwood box name).

Generate the uImage with DTB embedded inside:
cd /media/sdb1/boot
cp -a zImage-4.12.1-kirkwood-tld-1 zImage.fdt
cat dts/kirkwood-goflexnet.dtb >> zImage.fdt
mv uImage uImage.orig
mkimage -A arm -O linux -T kernel -C none -a 0x00008000 -e 0x00008000 -n Linux-4.12.1-kirkwood-tld-1 -d zImage.fdt uImage
sync

If you created the rootfs when running stock u-boot, then you would do the above.

But since you have installed new u-boot, the uImage must be the original. So mount the USB rootfs on another Linux box and reverse Step 4

cp -a uImage uImage.fdt
cp -a uImage.orig uImage

2. The DTB is not set correctly

dtb_file=/boot/dts/kirkwood-pogo_e02.dtb

After you've done number 1 above. Plug the USB rootfs in, and power up. Interrupt serial console and

setenv dtb_file '/boot/dts/kirkwood-pogoplug_v4.dtb'
and then

boot

After you've logged into Debian, set the DTB permanently

Check if the envs are listed OK
fw_printenv
If it did, then
fw_setenv dtb_file '/boot/dts/kirkwood-pogoplug_v4.dtb'

BTW,

The rootfs you are using is quite old (Debian stretch). Consider using Debian-5.2.9-kirkwood-tld-1-rootfs-bodhi.tar.bz2 (Debian buster).

bodhi,

Thanks for your support.

I used latest rootfs as you suggested in above post. Skipped step 4 and now I can boot successfully to debian.

Is there a tutorial in case of reverting back to stock ? I did backup of mtd0 as suggested in u-boot installation thread.

and after login when I update debian I am getting this error

Try setting the date first.

The only thing you need to do to go back to stock is to reflash mtd0 backup file to mtd0. Quite simple, but if you are not sure then post the question when you want to do that.

Error like this indicates that your system clock is not correct.

Check the clock
date

And since this box does not have RTC, the clock will be adjusted by ntp daemon (should be already running). Wait a few minutes to see if the clock is updated by ntp. Once the clock is sane, try apt-get update again.

And later, install fake-hwclock to save the system clock each time you reboot or shutdown the box.
