Pogoplug not booting into debian
June 15, 2013 12:46PM
Following the guide here: http://projects.doozan.com/debian/

Using debian squeeze.

The thing will not boot from USB no matter how many times I pull the plug, reinstall to the usb stick, or which USB stick I use. I've tried 3 different USB sticks including one that the POGO was previously using.

I'm at a loss and will be grateful to anyone able to offer any insight.

This all started when I SSH'd into the POGO and gave a reboot command. The device wouldn't boot from USB then, but also wouldn't boot into the POGO OS. Ever since formatting and installing, and all my attempts, it just boots into POGO OS.

Which Pogoplug do you have? Did you keep the installation log?
If you can log in to Pogo OS, I'd suggest to install netconsole first (you can see more info about the problem):

Where do I get the Installation log?

Edit:

Attempting another install on an identical USB stick that was previously running Debian on the pogo and this happens during install:

Quote

./dockstar.debian-squeeze.sh
...
...
...
Writing inode tables: done
Writing superblocks and filesystem accounting information:
Warning, had trouble writing out superblocks.done

This filesystem will be automatically checked every 23 mounts or
180 days, whichever comes first. Use tune2fs -c or -i to override.
mkswap: can't open '/dev/sda2': No such device or address
mount: mounting /dev/sda1 on /tmp/debian failed: Invalid argument
Could not mount /dev/sda1 on /tmp/debian
Pogoplug:/tmp$ sudo fdisk -l
-bash: sudo: command not found
Pogoplug:/tmp$ fdisk -l
Pogoplug:/tmp$ fdisk -l
Pogoplug:/tmp$ umount /dev/sda1
umount: cannot umount /dev/sda1: Invalid argument

It seems the USB just dissapears after it fails on the install during Writing superblocks?

Pogo21 could be different type (OXNAS vs. Kirkwood). In Pogo OS prompt run this command:
uname -a
and post output here.

Ran the command and here is the output:

Try unplug the USB stick and plug it back in. Check to see if it was detected:
dmesg

If it was then
fdisk -l

It does get detected if I do that. Attached is what I Could get from dmesg. I tried outputting it to a file and ftping in to get the entire dmesg output...but connection refused on ftp.

Pogoplug:/tmp$ dmesg > /tmp/dmesg.txt

Was uBoot installation part done successfully?

You could take the stick to another Linux box, and try to format it to make sure it is good. dmesg showed errors with the stick.
You can rerun the installation again with another USB stick. If uBoot was installed OK then it will detect that and skip it. But respond to the question to restore envs with YES.

In any case, pls post the complete log here so we can see what was going on.
