How to change DTB file for RK3328 TV Box
January 03, 2022 10:42AM
Hello,
I bought the CoolEME CM-MH1 RK3328 TV Box. This box seams to be a clone of Beelink A1 TV Box. Therefore I am using libreELEC and the DTB file which is made for Beelink A1 Box. My Box is running so far expect the USB3 port. Possibly some minor parts are different between these two boxes.

dmesg output (Android@CoolEME)

Is it possible to find out the necessary changes in the DTS file using the working Android system (e.g. USB3 power supply pin)?

Re: How to change DTB file for RK3328 TV Box

shv,

This looks like the regulator that provides power. The GPIO is 0x6e, the pin control is 0x6f.

usb3-current-switch {
		compatible = "regulator-fixed";
		enable-active-high;
		gpio = <0x6e 0x00 0x00>;
		pinctrl-names = "default";
		pinctrl-0 = <0x6f>;
		regulator-name = "vcc_host_5v";
		vin-supply = <0x2a>;
		phandle = <0xf3>;
	};

Perhaps the CoolEME uses different GPIO. So find in the system what GPIO are available (drilling down the sys class to find GPIOs)

ls -l /sys/class/gpio

And poke each one that is unassigned. Example,

https://forum.doozan.com/read.php?2,12096,35663#msg-35663

Also, there is userspace tools to list and set GPIOs, but I forgot what package has them.

Looks like this Debian package is the new GPIO tool. But I'm sure the /sys/class/gpio still usable.

libgpiod encapsulates the ioctl calls and data structures behind a straightforward API. This new character device interface guarantees all allocated resources are freed after closing the device file descriptor and adds several new features that are not present in the obsolete sysfs interface (like event polling, setting/reading multiple values at once or open-source and open-drain GPIOs).

Re: How to change DTB file for RK3328 TV Box

bodhi,

I just found out that the CoolEME CM-MH1 is a 100% clone of the Beelink A1 because the name which is shown on the PCB is beelink a1. LibreELEC just uses the dts configuration of the mainline kernel: https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git/tree/arch/arm64/boot/dts/rockchip?h=v5.16.7
If I compare rk3328-a1.dts with rk3328-roc-cc.dts I find the following difference:

rk3328-a1.dts
	vcc_host_5v: usb3-current-switch {
		compatible = "regulator-fixed";
		enable-active-high;
		gpio = <&gpio0 RK_PA0 GPIO_ACTIVE_HIGH>;
		pinctrl-names = "default";
		pinctrl-0 = <&usb30_host_drv>;
		regulator-name = "vcc_host_5v";
		vin-supply = <&vcc_sys>;
	};
rk3328-roc-cc.dts
	vcc_host1_5v: vcc_otg_5v: vcc-host1-5v-regulator {
		compatible = "regulator-fixed";
		enable-active-high;
		gpio = <&gpio1 RK_PD2 GPIO_ACTIVE_HIGH>;
		pinctrl-names = "default";
		pinctrl-0 = <&usb20_host_drv>;
		regulator-name = "vcc_host1_5v";
		regulator-always-on;
		vin-supply = <&vcc_sys>;
	};
The difference is more or less the following line:
		regulator-always-on;
Does the kernel initialize the default level of a gpio output during system start? In this case I can try to add
		regulator-always-on;
		regulator-boot-on;
to rk3328-a1.dts.

Right on! while testing the storage drive, the regulator should be set to both "always-on" and "boot-on".

Sometimes the kernel drops too fast and we'll loose proper power to the SATA or USB 3.0. I've seen this problem with the Zyxel NAS boxes.

bodhi,

the USB3.0 port works well after I added these two lines. I can't wake up the devices with the IR remote after shutdown of libreELEC. With original Android OS it consumes ~3W after power off. I think it doesn't really shutdown. How it is usually solved that the IR sensor is still working while most components are powerd off? This means that the IR sensor must wake up all other components if it receives the right power on command?

shv,

If the box is in a sleep/suspend state, the IR sensor sends the S1/S2/S3/S4 command (can't remember which) to the system to wake it up. The system must support this in the kernel. It is either sleeping or hibernate (suspend). There is also S5 state (shutdown), which can be power up with WOL.

So in your case, if the LibreELEC issued a shutdown, perhaps it is a real shutdown, not sleep/suspend command? Kodi has a setting that you can modify to customize this behavior (it has been a long time ago that I did some Kodi customization, I don't remember much of details).
