RT3070/RT2870 with dockstar debian? how?
September 28, 2010 05:52PM
Hi,

i bought a Dlink DWL-G122 (E1) today for using it with my dockstar.

It has RT3070, so i had to compile the driver.

But i can't load the kernel module .. i tried several hours and i don't know what to do.

When i try "modprobe rt3070sta" it says

sudo modprobe rt3070sta
WARNING: All config files need .conf: /etc/modprobe.d/options, it will be ignored in a future release.
FATAL: Error inserting rt3070sta (/lib/modules/2.6.32-5-kirkwood/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/rt3070sta.ko): Invalid module format

Dmesg says:
[ 1085.975625] rt3070sta: unknown relocation: 3

I also tried the rt2870sta, same problem.

This problem is also mentioned here without any solution: http://plugcomputer.org/plugforum/index.php?topic=1664.0;wap2

Does anyone know a way to get the rt3070sta/rt2870sta working with an arm debian?

Have you installed rt3070.bin also?

yes, there is a package "ralink-firmware" or something which install the .bin files.

But - after several hours of trying- i decided to bring it the wlanstick back und i did buy a stick with RT73 Chipset which works ootb.

I had some minor issues with rt73. It works. However, it has much longer response time than my old zd1211 based adapter. I can even notice that when I do ssh into it. When you ping it from a computer on the same LAN, it would have a few to tens ms delay while zd1211 is always under 1 ms. It has no problem in streaming mode or transfer files.
Another thing I found out is Lenny works much better than Squeeze with the wifi usb adapters. I opinion is, if you want to do wifi, use Lenny not Squeeze. So far, I don't see anyone feel otherwise yet. I would like to see if there are different opinions.
