Problem with GoFlex Net
October 22, 2013 12:15PM
Hi,
something go wrong at installation process with jeff's script: http://projects.doozan.com/debian/

I can run Arch Linux when I create a usb device with steps 9-13 at my ubuntu pc: http://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv5/seagate-goflex-net

Now I try out to create a new debian installation at a new usb flash device, because I like to use debian: http://forum.doozan.com/read.php?2,5986,page=1
My goflex net is now booting and I can connect via ssh...but I always get this message:

/etc/ubit/images:
/etc/ubit/ubimounts:
/etc/ubit/extramounts:

No valid U-Boot environment exists.
You need to reboot once to let U-Boot set its default environment
before the ethaddr setting can be updated, either directly or
with a cached value.

To cache a value, run:
ethaddr uu:vv:ww:xx:yy:zz
UBIT v0.6 by peaslaker 2010.11-00125-ga21bcca
ubit0-6:~#

Can somebody help me? Thanks!

max,

Before you run Jeff script, try setting netconsole if you don't have serial console:
http://forum.doozan.com/read.php?3,14

Once you are in netconsole, you can print out the uBoot envs and other stuff.

If you want to run Jeff's script to replace uBit with the latest uBoot version, it is best if you have serial console connected. If you don't, it is a little risky, since we're going to run blind, can't see anything. The GoFlex Net is really nice, you can recover easily with UART booting if you have the correct BootROM, only way to tell is to dump some value in netconsole or serial console.

The bottom line is netconsole is very important, next to serial console. Since you're running uBit, and update it with current uBoot is something we don't have a lot of experience with. So no telling what will happen without looking inside the bootloader environment.

Ok, netconsole didn't work. But I booted into archlinux and update u-boot that way: http://archlinuxarm.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3355

Where can I get a complet debian image for my usb flash, to test it's now working?
