Bay,

So your current envs for booting is

Marvell>> setenv ipaddr 192.168.1.128
Marvell>> setenv serverip 192.168.1.180
Marvell>> setenv bootargs 'console=ttyS0,115200 root=LABEL=rootfs rootdelay=10 earlyprintk=serial'
Marvell>> mw 0x800000 0 1
Marvell>> tftpboot 0x800000 uImage
Marvell>> tftpboot 0x2100000 uInitrd
Marvell>> bootm 0x800000 0x2100000

1. See if you can boot with USB rootfs

Get the listing of stock envs (untouched)
printenv

And then enter these 3 envs (same as before)
Marvell>> setenv ipaddr 192.168.1.128
Marvell>> setenv serverip 192.168.1.180
Marvell>> setenv bootargs 'console=ttyS0,115200 root=LABEL=rootfs rootdelay=10 earlyprintk=serial'
And then try USB approach
usb reset
mw 0x800000 0 1
ext2load usb 0:1 0x800000 /boot/uImage
ext2load usb 0:1 0x2100000 /boot/uInitrd
bootm 0x800000 0x2100000

2. Saving envs permanently

I'll come back for this.

Re: Debian on Synology DS112

Bay,

So this stock u-boot does not support USB or IDE command (not possible to boot with USB or SATA storage device). Continuing using stock u-boot means you'll need to set up to boot permanently with tftp, until I can roll a new u-boot for it. Not hard, but I can only do it when I have time.

To prepare for a permanent envs setting. Do this test boot a few times

setenv ipaddr 192.168.1.128
setenv serverip 192.168.1.180
setenv set_bootargs_debian 'console=ttyS0,115200 root=LABEL=rootfs rootdelay=10 earlyprintk=serial'
setenv bootcmd_debian 'mw 0x800000 0 1; tftpboot 0x800000 uImage; tftpboot 0x2100000 uInitrd; run set_bootargs_debian; bootm 0x800000 0x2100000'
and then
run bootcmd_debian
After it booted into Debian, shutdown and repeat the test.

And then after it boot into Debian, do a reboot (not shutdown). Repeat the test.

===

If all went well. You can then decide to set the envs permanently booting Debian, or dual boot Debian and stock DSM. We'll do that.

Bodhi,

Thanks for your instructions, I really appreciate the help you provide here on this forum !

I did test your last commands but unfortunately my u-boot is missing the "run" command.

I'll wait for you custom u-boot :-)

Damn! this u-boot is pathetic :) you also don't have the "source" command!

You could try this. If this u-boot accepts a long string for env then it's better (copy and paste one command instead of several envs).
setenv bootcmd 'setenv bootargs console=ttyS0,115200 root=LABEL=rootfs rootdelay=10 earlyprintk=serial; mw 0x800000 0 1; tftpboot 0x800000 uImage; tftpboot 0x2100000 uInitrd; bootm 0x800000 0x2100000'
and then
boot
