So this stock u-boot does not support USB or IDE command (not possible to boot with USB or SATA storage device). Continuing using stock u-boot means you'll need to set up to boot permanently with tftp, until I can roll a new u-boot for it. Not hard, but I can only do it when I have time.
To prepare for a permanent envs setting. Do this test boot a few times
And then after it boot into Debian, do a reboot (not shutdown). Repeat the test.

If all went well. You can then decide to set the envs permanently booting Debian, or dual boot Debian and stock DSM. We'll do that.

1. Download the tarball
- Copy the tarball to the DS112.
- Copy the tarball to the Linux host that you are running serial console.

If your rootfs is on HDD, you don't need to use the USB drive. Basically, the boot.scr should be on /boot of whatever system you are running on the DS112. "
"Debian rootfs" could be the USB or HDD that you are booting with.
So do the above when you are logging in the DS112.

1. I recreated a rootfs using "Debian-6.5.7-kirkwood-tld-1-rootfs-bodhi.tar.bz2" and successfully booted using stock u-boot and tftp to load uImage and uInitrd => this was to validate this new rootfs
2. I did copy and extract your uboot archive to /boot and did the copy of boot.scr
3. Then I tried to boot with kwboot which had the exact same result as my previous post.
I tried with rootfs on usb stick, with internal sata and also external sata.
With stock uboot and tftp => all rootfs worked
With custom uboot => it stops on uboot prompt
I did find that usb drives and internal sata is not powered when using custom uboot.
could it be why it can't load any custom boot env from rootfs??

Not sure yet about USB but it looks like I've missed some configs that might be the cause why SATA does not spin up.

But in the meanwhile I had the and idea : if power of sata and usb is my problem I can workaround this assuming sata is data is ok.
I have a esata + usb (only for 5v) => sata (data and power) adapter which I used using power from usb charger and I could see my drive :
but using "boot" command didn't achieve anything :

I tried latest uboot (uboot.2024.10-tld-1.ds112.250421.tar) but still no luck using internal sata or USB device :
One thing that I noticed is that the driver for usb is "ehci" but my box has 2 USB 3.0 ports.
Maybe we have a wrong usb driver?
Also, just out of curiosity :
I played a bit with bootflow, sata and ext2.. commands but can you tell me how to boot debian from the esata drive?

Good to know! did you post the specs of this box here before? fill in as much as you can. It's OK to say "Unknow" for an item on the list and I'll figure out.
For example, here is the specs for ZyXEL NSA325

You don't have to do anything, just "boot" and u-boot will find the correct boot drive (where the boot.scr is). It seems we are seeing an old bug that I've fixed. Let me find out if I need to rebase to a later u-boot version.
