Pogoplug front USB port of death

I've noticed something odd with my pogoplug pink. I've searched a bit and found there are a few reports of people with problems on the front USB port and some where devices have stopped working.
I've got a similar problem.
My pogoplug kills USB devices that are plugged into the front.

So far it has killed two USB sticks. Not just corrupted them, but rendered them unreadable/unrecognisable in another machine.

Also have just killed my USB adapter for the current cost power meter. Which is a bit of a PITA.

I believe I probably have been hot plugging/unplugging, but that's part of the point of USB right ??

Dave,

What do you use for hotplug? do you use udev rules with mount/pmount or some other package to auto-mount/auto-unmount the USB drive?

Nothing. Just pulling the device.
USB sticks had not been mounted with the mount command to be accessible but showed up in /dev
Serial adapter was in /dev and a udev rule had created a sym link to it. But I pulled that one out whilst the unit was rebooting.

Never killed a device on windows doing this, or embedded stuff. Just my pogo.

Just odd that so many people have had issues when plugged in the front too. Perhaps it's coincidence, or perhaps the front port is an oddity ??
Gives me an excuse to covnert the current cost meter to be IP+PoE with a little ether<->serial module I have.
But frustrating since I just had it producing RRD graphs :(

Nothing particular to the Pogo E02. Does it automount when you plug it in? if the automount/umount mechanism is not set up correctly, and it is pulled out like that then the file system on your USB drive will eventually be corrupted beyond repaired!

In that respect, unmounted.
But for the USB <--> TTL adapter for the current cost meter, that's not mounted (tho has a udev entry).

Extremely frustrating. :(
