Can't mount HFSPlus HDD
November 09, 2013 07:58AM
Sorry, my fault. Certaily I have to mount "sdb2" instead.
Automount still does not work.
Maybe I have to delete the first Boot-Partition?

Hi Folks,

first of all:
Dockstar - Squeeze installed, upgraded to Wheezy (very slow 8GB USB-Stick w/o Swap) - installed hfsplus, -progs, -tools - also installed usbmount.
A 500 GB HFSPlus-HDD (and a 3TB ext4 HDD) worked automounted with r/w.

Now I wanted to use a 3TB Intenso USB 3.0 HDD. Original I had created a 2 TB HFS+ (named "Backups und Daten") and a 1TB NTFS partition on this device under OSX (10.7.5). Afterwards I deleted the NTFS partition and increased the HFS+ partition to 3 TB (named "Daten", now) under OSX without any dataloss. It's nearly full, now. The device was checked and properly unmounted.

Connected to the Dockstar, the device wasn't (auto)mounted.

Tried to manually mount the HDD:

root@dockstar:/media# mount -t hfsplus -o force,rw /dev/sdb1 /media/disk3
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdb1,
missing codepage or helper program, or other error
In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
       dmesg | tail or so

What's wrong?

root@dockstar:/media# dmesg | tail

As you can see, parted doesn't show a filesystem on sdb2, but (re-)connected to a mac everything seems to be fine (instead OSX doesn't show the sdb1 partition and shows partition 2 as "Daten").

What am I doing wrong? :-(

Kind regards
Mierscheid

Edith says:
root@dockstar:~# blkid
/dev/sda1: UUID="2a9b3d42-2620-4ccf-bf5a-61c1648ec688" TYPE="ext2"
/dev/sdc1: LABEL="Samsung" UUID="6fbc3357-d543-4abb-ae10-6fddc2210a93" TYPE="ext4"
/dev/sdb2: UUID="9e8c5a15-342b-3f18-93cc-7b577540647a" LABEL="Daten" TYPE="hfsplus"

Hmmm, after all debian recognized hfsplus?

Edit 2:
Connected to Edubuntu (x86) the system mounts the HDD immediately. I'm driving nuts.... :(

This is probably a question of wether the HFS+ support is included in the kernel that you use, or not. ;-)

Exactly! IIRC, the default installation does not have HFS+ turned on in the kernel.

@Mierscheid ,
Look in your config file (/boot/config-3.xx.x-xx) for
CONFIG_EFI_PARTITION
CONFIG_HFS_FS
CONFIG_HFSPLUS_FS

I now remeber having had a similar problem some months ago. Ubuntu seemed to have HFS+ support enabled by default, while Debian does not.
