pogoplug-E02 broken how to fix to boot then install debian
December 30, 2013 08:00AM
Been trying to get debian to boot on a pogoplug E02.

Right now I have no network ip show up and have a usb serial cable ... below is a dump of output from serial output on power up ... what are the next steps to get this device to a point I can install debian on it and access it without a serial cable?

i put rootfs on usb thumbdrive you referred to above and rebooted WITHOUT serial cable attached ... the pogo does NOT show up on the network.

If I reboot and attach the serial cable (usb) an ip address for the pogo does show up but I can not run the device like this ... need to boot without serial cable attached .... this is the output i see from the serial output ... what causes the -19 error ?

UBIFS error (pid 0): ubifs_get_sb: cannot open "ubi:rootfs", error -19

Try SSH in to IP address 192.168.1.35 as root. Looks like your router assigned this

DHCPREQUEST on eth0 to 255.255.255.255 port 67

i know that works only when the serial cable is attached .... the issue is it will not assign an ip nor is accessible without the serial cable attached when it boots.

If I reboot with the serial cable attached and disconnect the serial cable only after 'hit any key to stop autoboot' at the following point (below) during pogo reboot it will assign an ip an i can access via a network connection without the serial cable. I can not deploy this with such a requirement since will not have a computer nearby.

It shouldnot behave differently. But you could try to set up static ip after logging in by serial console to see if you can connect with ssh.

tried with static ip ... still same issue ...

might something be messed up on internal flash that executes before usb thumbnail gets executed?

earlier post I asked about -19 error ... might that be some clue of why it does not boot without serial cable?

Perhaps if that gets resolved might solve my issue?

The error with ubifs is expected. So you can safely ignore it.

The only thing I can think of is your USB thumb drive was not recognized properly without slowing down the boot process. What is boot process looks like in the log where you did not hit any key to stop serial console? how far did it go?

what is the name of the log or files I can look at?

Guess if I know their names I will have to power off and put usb thumbnail in a computer and look at them then

I meant the same log of serial console output as in this post:
http://forum.doozan.com/read.php?2,14597,14612#msg-14612

what happen if you did not stop the serial console?

You could also try netconsole:
http://forum.doozan.com/read.php?3,14
to see if it behaves differently.
