What is a rebate cash?

They supposedly give you the rebate in the form of an American Express Reward Card right? So I'd imagine if I had $20 in my name, I could technically buy another Pogoplug at $15 or so, right? But that means I'm on American Express's radar and I don't want a credit card nor anything other than PayPal. So I dunno... hate to throw money away but I'm sure they have well-paid mathematicians who know that $20 will nickel and dime themselves several times more loot over the long haul.

Really, it's speculation at best, but for these rebate programs they should have listed every card and currency they accept - see which one consumers most rather be paid. Mine would be PayPal account.

IC your point. I also suspect as you explained. It is very hard to spend an even $20 online. The problem with the loose change is your rebate Amex card will get some service charges the minute you use it the 1st time. I am not sure if you can use the rebate Amex card as a payment to a PayPal account. If so, then that will be great only if PayPal doesn't incur any service charges.

It looks like I may have to go with your recommendation. I haven't finalized my decision yet. All I have to do is to invest on this SATA 22Pin to eSATA Data USB Powered Cable Adapter and precisely to cut out a rectangular hole on the side enclosure panel atop of the SATA port so that the 7-pin SATA connector will fit into the SATA port. Then, connect the USB connector to one of the USB ports on the back + the 7+15 pins SATA connector to my external 2 TB SATA HDD.

The other option is to buy this Right angle SATA data cable + 4-Pin Molex IDE to 15 Pin SATA power cable and hope there will be enough space to hold my 2.5" SATA HDD internally. This option, not only very involved, but rather risky because of the limited space available, let alone it involves soldering cables to USB bus.

If you are going to settle with the HDD outside the case like that, then best to use WarheadSE's hack (LeggoMyEggo did this): use SATA-eSATA cable, and mount the eSATA connector (dremmel a retangular hole) right above the ethernet port. That way it will work with either this cable or eSATA enclosure. I'm doing this, too, but I'm lazy so I just route the SATA-eSATA cable out under the front bottom (there is a small gap that the cable can be routed out precisely).

I sign up with that place and order two SATA 22Pin to eSATA Data USB Powered Cable Adapters. Then they don't take PayPal Arrrgh. I just had enough to cover it. Any similar place anyone know of? Man, why they have to charge ten times more in the States is just insane - even 5 times is reasonable on some tiny parts. 10 x is kind of price gouging.

Unfortunately, I don't know if any other online stores has such a lower price. If anyone here knows a better online store that offers a better deal (other than through auction, i.e. ebay), I am all ears. You are right it is a rather drawback that AliExpress doesn't accept PayPal.

As with 10x the price gouging, I reckon it is for profit. The reason this works is because of the huge demands by the consumers. Nowadays, I mostly buy my computer and/or electronics parts from AliExpress unless I can find a better deal locally, i.e. clearance, etc., and be patience awaiting for the shipment to arrive. Unless the vendor sends through EMS, my order usually arrives within 3 weeks from the day the vendor posts the tracking number. For this, my preference is a vendor who offers the lowest price + a free S/H service with EMS to ensure the shipment will arrive within 10 days from the day the tracking number gets posted.

As with AliExpress shopping, please be very careful with your buying. There are a lot of bad (mostly new with no ratings) vendors who offer unbelievable low price only to harvest your money. When this happens to you, just file a dispute with AliExpress and you should get your money back within 4 working days. You can simply identify these vendors by looking at the price and their ratings. One will also need to be very carefully perusing the ads to make sure what is included in the package. Also equally important is the sale, especially on the SuperDeals offer, doesn't necessarily constitutes to the lowest price. I mostly check the SuperDeals offer on a daily basis and if I find the products I like I will search the site using the ads titles to find out if there is any vendors that can offer a better deal in term of price and/or shipping carrier (EMS is my preference). The problem with AliExpress consumers in East Cost of US is their SuperDeals offer starts a 3:00 AM with a limited quantity. By the time I wanted to place the order the next day in the morning, most of the time the vendor has already run out of the limited stock. So, in order to be able to get what I want, I usually stay up until 3:00 AM to place the order before I go to sleep.

I was searching through AliExpress for SATA and found this 1 to 5 SATA 2.0 Port Multiplier Card adapter 3Gbps SATA II and thought perhaps anyone here may be interested in this product to build an external SATA raid system for his/her PogoPlug Pro system.

I posted some clear pictures of my mod so you can have a better look at Jason Plum's technique. Couple notes, I used a hot knife tip on a soldering iron to cut the hole and I used the metal bracket that the cable came with as a perfect heat proof guide. A Dremel tool is not advised TBH as you really risk scratching the case's shinny finish. Also, you will see a Radio Shack right angle SATA adapter that I added because the SATA to ESATA cable I used stuck up too far from the board and interfered with the replacement of the cover. Observe the placement of the ESATA port above the ethernet port, doing this is optimal as it does not interfere with insertion of wide USB devices which would occur if placed adjacent to the USB ports.

Very nice mod :) my right angle SATA connection is not as nice, just one cable built in. Did not know they have the right angle adapter like that! And thanks for that hot knife tip hint, is it something you can put on the soldering iron tip, like an adapter? What I've been doing to route the serial cable out was using a small drill bit to make a round hole, and gradually using larger drill bits make the hole big enough for the serial cable to go through. But rectangular hole is hard to make with a drill.

Thank you for the link with photos. After carefully observing all your photos, I now understand what I need to order as shown below.

1. A Single SATA to ESATA External PCI Slot ($1.53).
2. A SATA L Female connector ($1.51).
   
3. A SATA 22Pin to eSATA Data USB Powered Cable Adapter ($2.88).

They all add up to about $5.92 (more expensive than the PogoPlug Pro P02). If I go with my plan by cutting a rectangular hole on the side panel (along with the plastic sleeve), I only need to buy this SATA 22Pin to eSATA Data USB Powered Cable Adapter ($2.88). However, it will look uglier. :(

Here is the hot knife tip: RS Hot Knife Tip

It fits (not perfectly) on this soldering iron: Weller WC100 Soldering Iron

You need to get it really hot before trying to cut. But it works really well IMO.

Edit: And here is the right angle adapter: RS Right Angle SATA Adapter You can still find them on eBay.

That is a nice one. I found this inexpensive 900M-T-K 5mm Width Bevel Welding Soldering Iron Tip on AliExpress but don't know if the tip will be too thick.

You guys inspired me to finally finish my Pro mods, I just installed an exterior wireless antenna. Pics are here:

I had purchased this antenna and cable with the hopes of getting OpenWRT working with the internal wifi card. A suitable router should have external antenna, no? Not yet but I am sure it will happen at some point.
