cat /etc/ntp.conf | grep serverIf no server specified in your ntp.conf, then you should uncomment all four. You can sync with other time servers, instead of using Debian pool servers. But normally, uncomment these pools is all you need to do.

Ntpdate is running when you try to start the server. I haven't found reasons why to leave it installed so you could remove it if you are using ntp daemon:apt-get remove ntpdate
