Speeding up cherokee and PHP
November 20, 2010 09:56AM
Hi there, I make use of my Dockstar as a web server, provided by Cherokee. I installed a MediaWiki in order to save my notes, but it's rather slow.
How do I speed up the performance of MySQL and PHP via FastCGI?

You could try running a more lightweight webserver like lighttpd, and installing a php accelerator like APC. I haven't done it for the dockstar myself, but did it for the NSLU Slug a long time ago.

Or if you're into more hacky fun and games I recommend boa.
Boa can be installed from debian squeeze repos (add to sources.list, apt-get update, install boa, remove from soirces.lisf and remove cached repo OR download boa armel package and deps, it requires mimetypes)

What's so cool about boa? On my dockstar it serves CGI so fast that when benchmarking I found that 100Mbit ethernet is a bottleneck.
